Well, the old girl has tried to drive me nuts but I finally got most of the bugs out,the only thing left to do is take out the miserable thermostatic surface unit and convert it to a normal switch, the old girl bakes beautiful, and the griddle works great, these pix show how the light works.

SORRY!!!

My pix were terrible, but you would be shaky too if you had moved that 300 pound monster.....my pix usually are better, but everyone gets the idea.

?????

Damned if I know----anything to make it different from others is all I can figure, now everything is the same....then if you saw a Frigidaire...you knew what it was, same with a Norge, G E Hotpoint and all the rest, now unless you look at the nameplate, they are all mostly the same.

Beautiful Hans, I'm just guessing here but I bet they thought that my being able to move the light you would be able to have it just where you needed it. Not a bad idea really. You have done a fantastic job on that range Hans. Just in time for some good holiday baking. I can smell the coffee a perking in that beautiful Corning pot too!!

The light on the hinge is super cool Hans! I believe this is one of the earliest ranges with a window, I think Frigidaire had one in '54 as well.

Oven windows

Hey Robert, my 1953 Westinghouse Imperial "30" electric range has an oven window. Sorry I can't provide a pic as it's in storage. I don't think GE started putting windows in theirs until the restyling in '57. You're probably right about Frigidaire having them in '54. Seems like Kelvinator had them early on, too. I would really like to know what brand of electric ranges had ROUND windows, like Western Holly gas ranges. Did WH make electric models too? In 1957 (I was 2), we moved out of the three family house my grandfather owned, and the people that moved in had an electric range that was wider than ours. So until the cabinets and top could be modified for theirs to fit, they and my parents made an agreement that they could use ours, and we theirs (we had a wider space available) . We did this for a month or so, and then switched them after the kitchen was reworked to accept theirs. I remember it having the round window, but not much else about it. The peoples daughter lives down at the end of my street, but I never think to ask her if she remembers anything about it.

Window....

Robert, I have a Norge owners manual from 1947 that shows a oven window, also a Crosley ad from 50 that does,The 60 series Tappans also had a window about 48 or so, these are the earliest I know of.

Thanks JEB

When I have a chance I'll look, but it's not readily accessible since it's in storage at the present. The owners manual I have is packed up too. I hope to be back in my house soon, and get everything arranged so I know what's where.
