Witness the strange Odyssey an order from Monoprice is taking as it wends its way from Rancho Cucamonga, California to Rialto.  Expand the Tracking History section and read bottom to top.

 

For those unfamiliar with the area, Fontana is just east of Rancho Cucamonga, and Rialto is just east of Fontana.  The shortest driving distance from Monoprice to your humble writer's home is barely 11 miles via Historic Route 66.

 

As of posting, delivery is FINALLY expected by today.  A promise chiseled in whipped cream.

That thing has traveled 1000 miles!

I hate the usps/ups mail innovations last mile relationship. Typically when I have the unfortunate luck of getting something by way of innovations, it takes way longer than if just a single carrier had delivered it AND once ups drops it off at the nearby usps distribution depot (like 5 miles from the house) the package will sit there for 1-3 days before putting it on the usps neighborhood route. It is as if the ups truck backs up to the back 40 corner of the usps lot and dumps the load. Then the attitude at the usps depot is like, "we'll get to the non-usps crap whenever the boss yells at us to get it in and add it to the system".[this post was last edited: 10/2/2020-11:44]
 
A vendor's business partner mailed two packages to us in August via priority mail from just across the Potomac River in Fairfax, VA, a two day trip, max. The package has yet to arrive. It has been to the west coast and several points in between and, when they last checked, was scheduled to be delivered to a post office somewhere North of here. I hope that DeJoy was invited to the White House two Saturdays ago.

This joker is moving from the relative hurricane safety of Sarasota, FL to the Gulf coast of Mississippi which has been hard hit several times recently.
 
I once had a package go to Hawaii from New York before it finally came to me in Seattle.

But I have to say, despite the recent troubles with the USPS I’ve generally had good luck with them. Just last week I bought two items on eBay - a toaster (Michigan) and an old phone (Massachusetts) and both arrived within three days.

Roswell, GA. In the past 12 years I've had 4 packages go to Roswell, NM.

The weird thing was, you could see the package start out ok on tracking, but then along the way it gets rerouted. I was under the assumption that the zip code was used to route the package.

But since Roswell, GA and Roswell, NM zip codes are wildly different, it appears human sorting is looking at the city name ..... not the zip and making the conclusion. To me that is a major flaw in the system since there are 9 Roswell's across this country and people doing the sorting are simply using city names and assume the rest.

Once the packages made it to NM, they all then got rerouted again back to Atlanta but added several days to the delivery times. Isn't the sorting process, for the most part humanless automation? If not, it should be.

The addresses on all 4 packages were usps printed labels with tracking numbers. Go figure.
