There is a real Dive here that sells used washers from around 1970's and up he has about 50 Washers most don't work but he will fix them for ya before I buy.My Partner bought a G.e. Harmony which I hate,it can't wash shoes at all.What brand should I get?I saw a old Gibson,Amana,Maytag,Kenmore,G.e.Speed Queen,Kitchenaid,Whirlpool and I am sure I am leaving some out but NO Frigidare anything.He told me he gets them once a year about it he said there so rare parts are hard to come by and then they go QUICK.I was thinking about the G.e. Filter Flo or Maytag they are both 1979 model I don't know much about that year.Whats cool is he even will let me pick out the agitator in it.He did promise me when he gets a Jetcone he will call me and give it to me sence I gave him our 2000 Maytag performa that sucks.I am lost....

A 1979 Maytag
is still a highly desirable machine!
Reliable, easy to fix, parts are still (currently) available.... I think you couldn't go far wrong with one.

But I have worked on 1979 Maytags and they were still the real thing. I don't think they cleaned quite as well as the filter-flos (sorry, I am under-impressed by the rinse on Maytags) but you can get any parts (not that much can break or go wrong) and there is no reason why this machine should not last another 20 years or so.

Looks like we are working towards a unanimous decision here. As long as you don't need super capacity, IMO the '79 Maytag would be the way to go.

If you have animals, go with a Filter Flo. If you don't go with the Maytag.
I just used a freinds 1981 Maytag and it washed and rinsed very well. Much better than my 1993 TOL Whirlpool did!

If it was me, I would get at least - one of each!! 
Any of the GE(as long as it's a filter flow style), Maytag, or Whirlpool/Kenmore branded machines would be OK. Stay away from the Amana, Gibson, or SQ.
