Using Oxyclean with Chlorine Bleach Chenical Reaction ?

Tonight I did a load of white dress shirts, I pretreated the collars and cuffs with an oxyclean spray preteater, and washed in hot with Tide HE powder and about1 tablespoon of calgon water softner, I also used bleach. I have an Affinity front loader , I dont know if the bleach is dispensed at the end of the wash cycle or on the first rinse

When I too the shirts out of the washer the collars and cuffs where I sprayed the pretreater turned yellow !!! What could have caused this ? Here I was trying to save 20 bucks in sending these shirts out and now they are ruined which is going to cost me about 150 bucks to replace them !!!!

I've seen it before.

I would try presoaking them in hot water, with a little borax, for an hour, rinse, and re wash in hot water with very little detergent.

Sometimes chlorine bleach will react to oil residue, or detergent residue and turn yellow. Often times, the less you put into a "white load" the better. Just pre treat and use the least amount of detergent as possible, avoid bleach if possible, and rinse twice, warm if possible.

I've heard that the Oxiclean can also form gases similar to when you mix ammonia with bleach.

Did it read "do not use chlorine bleach"?   Sometimes fabrics can yellow, when laundered with LCB.

Both the oxyclean spray treater and the chlorine bleach could be the problem. I would never use a spray treater with oxygen bleach like I would never pour chlorine bleach on something. You run the risk of partly discolored items.

Pretreating should be done with a spray treater that doesn't contain oxygen bleach or with a liquid detergent without some kind of bleach.

Use oxygen bleach or chlorine bleach in the wash, but never at the same time. At best one will keep the other from working.
