Using the KDS15 like a portable dishwasher.

A couple of people have asked what I did to use the built-in 15 like a Portable.  I don't feel like I have done anything that others haven't done but there was some interest in seeing pictures of what I've done.

 

I actually had to do two things:

 

First - I had to convert the 3/8 inch female connection on the fill valve to a 3/4 inch male machine thread use with a Unicoupler.  I bought a 3/8 inch by 1/2 inch brass Nipple as they call them and a 1/2 inch to 3/4 adapter.  I then screwed the Unicoupler on and had my water connection.  I have a leak right now in the fill valve but I have a replacement sourced and on the way (thanks Steve!!).

Then I wanted a way to roll it around but had to address the issue of it tipping if full of dishes with the racks extended.  I recall years ago there was some portable dishwasher that had wheels or something that extended when you opened the door.  So, I thought if I had a furniture dolly with wheels that extended that may do the trick.

 

I couldn't find on the size I wanted so I built one.  I built one that is 28" X 25".  I placed the dishwasher on the cart, bolted it down and I don't think that sucker is going anywhere.  It seems like I could break the door off before it would tip.  I was worried about the dog tipping it if I'm not paying attention.  She loves to jump on the door and lick the plates and I didn't want that to happen with this machine. 

 

This cart was easy to make.  If I can do it anyone can.  I went to Home Depot for the wood and had them cut the pieces to size.  I then used wood glue to glue it together and bought screws for the casters that were long enough to go through both pieces of wood for strength.  Seems like this will work just fine. 

 

This machine has needed more parts than I thought it would but I have managed to source what I need from the kind souls at AW.ORG and a kind man in Connecticut who parted out the 15 he had for sale and shipped me that parts I needed.

 

It's getting there bit by bit but this is the machine I have always wanted and it's worth the effort.  You all know what I mean!!  It's why we're all here.

You are on your way!

Ralph, You sure work fast! The machine looks good and I am sure that it is more than stable on that platform. Good idea to secure the rails by drilling thru the both of them for the casters. I would not depend on wood glue alone! Now get some nice Birch Plywood and make a set of sides for it add a top and tile it to match your counters and it will be a real conversation piece in the house.

Your parts are going out on Monday so you should have them by Wednesday.
