Vactric Wringer Washer

This is one that has yet to emerge - I keep hoping that Lance in Yorkshire might turn one up. I had hoped that the Which report on wringer washers from 1958 might have included it, but no such luck - although it might have been too new to be included. Its not clear from the scan but the ad is dated February 1958 - not unlike myself LOLOL

The Vactric company was around from the mid/late 1920s and better known for their vacuum cleaners than washing machines. That said, they imported (I believe) Apex washers prior to WW2 (and also the Apex Airflo models were their TOL uprights in the same period).

I have seen reference to other another Vactric washer earlier in the 1950s but I cannot believe that they had the resources to produce them themselves - their vacuums hardly changed from 1939 right up to when they went out of business in very early 1960. I have often wondered if some other company made them for Vactric to put their name on, but that information has yet to come forth.

This machine is unusual in that the tub was moulded green plastic and with that agitator it must certainly have moved the water around.

I was amused to see that if you did not intend to use the heater it could be plugged into a 5amp socket - visions of it being plugged into the light fitting.

However the implication is that this machine was only produced with a heater

only last week i bought the instructions for a Vactric wringer washer, the next thing i was going to do was scan it , post on here and ask if anybody had one in their collection.
Al , you saved me all that trouble.
Unfortunately i dont have one but if one should crop up i would certainly be intrested.
Keith , have you got one? come on , i cant stand the tension.

Parnall Washer

Very interesting washer, looks like they have taken the best of Hoover and Servis and combined them, that side switch and wringer look Hooveresque, the agitator, heater and top controls like Servis...

Have never seen a heater in a plastic tub though, wonder if there where many meltdowns? Al yes the size of that agi and ribbed tub - I bet it took only a Hoover 4 mins to wash!!

I came across the other Vactric with the angled impellor but not this above model..this is the underside, simple square tub like first Hoover, no switch no pump or heater!!

I know where there is one, but it will have to wait a while before i can pick it up, somewhere up in Edinburgh..darn!! why are some machines always so far away.

The lady sent me some pics which i will try and upload over the weekend. I will try and have a look for the filter flow nozzel as well, but am away in london over the weekend so it may have to be next weekend.

Absolutely no rush for the filter flow spout , its not like i dont have an alternative washer!
Would love to see the photos of the Vactric , i also have a contact who could possibly get the machine from Scotland to me in Yorkshire for a very reasonable price , then you could come up here to collect it.
Let me know if you want me to persue that one.

Vactric Wringer Washer

Here is a video of Als Vactric wringer washerand we can see "It Certainly Moves The Water Around" its a right thrasher, with a powerful full width wringer this must have been a joy to use from a dolly tub and sink.

The front operated controls are like the Servis, the side control is like a Hoover but the green fiberglass tub is very unique. Love that back & forth sound and action, look when it empties and all those vanes start appearing, clothes stand no chance of staying dirty !!

I remember..

...the day Al collected the machine from Manchester and then came on down to me with two hoover 419 cleaners and a 417 which form cherished parts of my collection.

A good day for both Al and myself.

I really like that vactric washer.

The Vactric has wonderful colour and now seeing it in action is a fantastic and looking to not bad condition for a machine that is some 62 years old.

Have you guys adapted it so the hose comes out the back ? and changed the pump switch to just lift not lift and turn ?

Hello Walter , Thanks and glad you got to see it on its maiden car journey, glad you had a catchup and more Hoovers for the collection, The vactric is a very sturdy washer, really deep tub with lots of features, certainly the clothes around.

Hope your are keeping well in the madness, we wont be meeting up any time soon , mores the pity !!

its not quite a compact machine, bigger than a Servis but not as big as a Hotpoint Empress, certainly does the job !

Hi Keith, isnt that tub just the job, lovely colour, I wonder how it fared over the years, I was worried when I saw it had two powerful 1500w heaters but no probs using them , heated the water to 60d in 1 hrs from cold.

If you remember this was found in a house buried and hidden behind a wall under the stairs, new occupants had started renovations demolished the wall and found it ...

It was a little weary but has cleaned up well and more paint polishing to do, the lads replaced the mains cord and as the original green hose had perished we have put a new grey one on that comes through the tub. The original top and curved part of the hose is soaking in Son Of A Gun to supple it and we will connect is to the grey coming out of the tub corner as intended.

The washer hadnt been used for a while ( goes to show they need regular usage) and the pump had seized although working last time. I couldnt move the lever at all, so a soaking in oil and linkage underneath had it part working but as ever these things happen whe the tubs full of water so I coaxed it gingerly while emptying it . I connected the green hose to it for filming a more permenant job will be done later.

Love this machine, that agitator is on steroids, its huge on the base, and all those fins with the Angels Wings,

Not sure who posted this add, at first I thought it was the Canadian / US model as it has the metal goose meck empty hose poking through the tub outlet but it mentions the 2 stage immersion heaters.

Wonder if they was an early or later model before / after the green empty hose on als model ?

Do we think this is the only actual Vactric machine made, I remember there was mention of a turbulator simple single tub washer mentioned before in another thread (729538)) which could have been a Vactric badged machine, not to dissimilar to the Flately washer I have.

I believe the above pic is one I took, I have this advert blown up in an A3 size picture frame at the study, the white blob is the light reflecting off the glass when I took the picture, regarding the hose, looking at the manual the metal "Goose neck" was always on the hose and then there was what looked like a green funnel part to the hose ?? It states in the manual "fill the machine with the combined filling and emptying hose, recessed in the top of the machine, not sure how that would work though ? it also list's point 10, Drain hose with attachment ?

Aha that would make sense Keith as the original Vactric hose thats soaking in Son Of A Gun does have the wide neck with fold back rubber that would fit different taps..

I found the other Vactric washer which does indeed have the angled spinning small pulsator in the corner of the base, Its much bigger than your Flately its almost the width of this vactric, but its like the Hoover 0307, no on / off ma, pump etc..
