I wouldn't have thought so - Vanish Stain Remover powder is just a slightly more concentrated laundry powder.

I suppose the only way it might ruin a machine, would be if the user habitually used a ton of the stuff, constantly causing a drum full of suds, damaging the bearing seal and bearings, with poor rinsing results too.

Plastics deteriorate over time anyway, some become brittle, some craze, some peel, some turn to powder. You can sometimes smell the deterioration of certain plastics... they give off a vinegary or an unwashed 'B.O.' type odour - not very pleasant.

"I have only known Vanish as a toilet bowl cleaner"

Vanish (stain remover) is a line of oxygen bleaches/laundry stain removing products marketed in Australia, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, Latin America, the United Kingdom and much of Europe by Reckitt Benckiser. It has totally nothing to do with S.C. Johnson product "Vanish" sold in USA as toilet cleaning product.

In USA/North America Reckitt Benckiser sold "Vanish" as Spray N Wash "pink" then Resolve products.

Vanish in wash stain removal products are basically oxygen bleach with various surfactants/cleaning agents and some builders and so forth. Cannot see how it would damage any parts of a washing machine, more so since one is supposedly using comparatively small amounts.

Unlike various metals plastics are largely immune from attack by chemicals or alkaline/acidic substances. That is one reason so many washing machine and dishwasher parts once made of metals are now plastics.
