Vernel fabric softener

All, I finally broke down today in a fit of fiscal lunacy and paid $9.00 for a 750 ml bottle of Vernel "Peach and Lemon blossom" fabric softener from my local Miele vacuum emporium.

This was right after I broke down further and bought another box of Miele tabs for $34.00. Those I can/will cut in half, since I understand that just 1/2 tab will clean a fairly nasty load in my Miele DW.

My question is, how little Vernel can I use (in my 11 lb. Miele) and still get reasonable results? Using the guide on the label, 24 ml (about 1/2 a cap) is OK for most mixed loads. This should, therefore, yield about 31 loads/bottle. At $9.00 a bottle, that's roughly .29/load...not all of the money in the world, but still WAY pricier than most any other liquid softener out there.
Is there a way to stretch this diesel priced, but oh so lovely smelling liquid further?

I've not yet used any..I'm awaiting advice from the masters.

I've used Vernel Blue Sky and Peach Lemon for several years. I alternate bewteen Comfort, Snuggle, Vernel, Miele and sometimes Downy. For Vernel I dose between 1/4 to 1/2 cap (for larger 100% cotton loads). After I complete a bottle I fill it with water shake a bit, and use that to top off the FS dispenser for each load.

I use Vernel fabric softener as well and I also have the Peach version which I really like. 1/2 cup should be enough for 11 lbs. but I prefer using only 1/4 cup because I´m using an electric tumbledryer.

But I like Gain Ultra most..never had a better smelling softener!

I use Vernel and I find it expensive at 2,5€ per 750 ml bottle, I only use the "blue, fresh sky" fragrance and if I don't use one full dose (mor often one and a half) it doesn't do the job, stuff stays hard and stiff! Anyway 9$ is quite a steal! How can you manage to use that little?!

I hate the "blue sky" version! But I get VerNel very cheap, most of time it costs me 0.88€ up to 1.39€

How little can I use and still get reasonable results ?

In my opinion it mostly depends on the type of fabric and the load size.
I have had perfect results with just a few drops for a tiny load of Polyester. You might need the full cap for a stuffed full load of cotton that gets line dried.
Correct me if I`m wrong but I think FS is just positively charged surfactants which adhere to the negatively charged laundry. The dilution factor (watervolume) seems to me not as important as with detergents, because FS adheres to the fabric and any FS left in the water is kind of an overkill.

You might also find it interesting that the ingredients list of Vernel is very short and simple. IIRC it does not even have preservatives in it. Unfortunately the "Rezepturinformation für Verbraucher" does not work properly at the moment. Lenor for example has an endless list of chemicals listed, but it is still my favorite because they have the better scents to my nose.

The Vernel Day at the Beach is way too strong for a scent for my taste. It stays in the clothes for days. And I do mean days. I have tried the Miele fabric softener and I can say I tried it and wont buy it again. I keep going back to Downy April Fresh. I am planning a trip to Canada so i will be stocking up on my fave softener Fleecy Extra Fresh and the Fleecy Fresh Air. Both scents to me are nice and the clothes smell fresh when they come out of the dryer.
I have tried the softener at Restoration Hardware and the flavor I like is Beach House. The scent is incredible but is a tad pricey for my purse.

I should correct myself because I said I used Blue Sky. When the blue colored version became available that was the name. They have changed the name to Day At the Sea and the fragrance has changed a bit also. It is stronger which is why I only use 1/4 to 1/2 cap. I buy several bottles at once so I still have some Blue Sky left.

The reason I like the Miele FS is that my nose cannot really smell it when the clothes are dry. Everything just smells fresh and feels good. I tried Beach House and agree that the scent is incredible, but I paid almost $20 for it - good for special occasions.

A few years ago I bought a few bottles of Comfort Blue. Loved the scent so the next year I ordered a box of different scents. What arrived was concentrated versions which smell stronger. Last month I discovered that some of the Comfort scents are now available in the Snuggle brand(both made my Unilever).

Comfort Blue is Snuggle Blue Sparkle
Sweet Almond oil is Snuggle Almond Essence.
I could not find my favorite which is Lilly and Rice Flower.

I think Vernel makes another scent - the name has something to do with Roses. I would like to try that one.

The Rose scented Vernel is nice but they dont sell it here anymore. Or let me rephrase that I cant find it either on Mieles website or the dealer I got to. My mom liked the Rose scent since I would do her sheets in that. Its not for me. I still have Downy Rose and Violet scent softener and its no where near what the Vernel smells like.
