Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Friends of my parents had this machine at their house in Jacksonville Beach. My parents had never seen a portable dishwasher before and were fascinated by the faucet connections. I remember them telling us that the only disadvantage was if you wanted to open the locked lid, you had to turn the timer knob around to "off" and if you had filled the detergent cup, you would lose that when the timer knob was turned. When we got home, they started looking at portable dishwashers.

my first dishwasher. Incredibly ancient when I bought it for 10 bucks in 1970. Worked surprisingly well for an impeller machine. Said to be "the dishwasher that saved an industry". Wonder if that was just hype, or based on sales?

It was a line from GE's book about Appliance Park- "A Walk Through the Park". It seemed to imply that this machine- (GE's first automatic portable?) played a part in making dishwashers more mainstream. I wonder if sales figures support the suggestion that it was a game changer?
