Good Morning Everyone :)

Hi There,My name is Dave,I live in Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada & I am so happy to be here finally :) I purchased about a month ago a Vintage Eaton Viking Front load Stacking Washer & Dryer set from where else Kijiji,I knew I should of had Major Red Flags come up where I was purchasing it because the set was pulled from it's original location in the past owner's home :( I could not test the washer/dryer set before purchasing but I needed a washer/dryer right away & the set affordable for my needs plus also I was moving across town to a new home.The original owner swore up & down that the set works! Yeah right!
Anyways to make this short I tried to start up the washer/dryer the washer works but the drain pump is shot motor turns but squeals like crazy & also leaks from the seals,plus the lint catcher pull out in the front needs a new o-ring.Lucky the washer goes through the cycles,washes,spins,etc :)
The dryer on the other hand works but it also squeals like crazy I think idler pulley is shot and the drum barely turns.The drum glides appears to be in good shape.
I tried calling around town for parts but I can not find out anything on this set or even where to get parts or who made them,because I am thinking the set is so old that the parts are unavailable :( Please see pic ).The model numbers of the this set are: The Washer Model No. EFW2W & The Dryer is Model No. EFD2W both are Made in Italy?Any help as to what company made these two for Eaton's would be Great! So I can finally try to get this set up a running again :) I was surprised as to how well is set is made very high quality materials & the both weight a ton! So if anyone can help it would be Greatly Appreicated :) Otherwise I will be out $250 bucks & no washer/dryer :( God! I feel like such a tool for buying this set :(

Hi there...

I had this exact set for 10 years. My washers pump had to be replaced twice. It was the weakest link! These were also sold under the Kelvinator and White Westinghouse brands here in Canada.

I wonder if you would have luck finding the parts (or spares) in Europe?

Those were sold in this area, but I think it was under the Magic Chef name, or maybe that was one of the names they were sold under. John and Jeff saw a couple of sets in the townhomes in Greenbelt. They worked. I don't know how well. I am not sure, but these might have been similar to the little frontloader that Sears sold for a brief time in the 1980s. The door latch looks familiar as do the dials.
 
Thank you so much guys for the warm welcome to the group & all of your help you all have given me :) At least now I have starting point to try to find spare parts for these two machines,I am so happy that they both are Philco-Bendix machines the glass doors should have been a dead giveaway lol! I was not sure so I figured just ask?I guess now this explains the quality that was built into these two machines mainly the washer the motor is huge on it for such a smaller size unit & also why they lasted this long :) I just hope the search is not going to be to hard to find any parts or spares for them?Wow no wonder why the appliances shops in Winnipeg just laughed or would not even be willing to help me on finding parts for these two lol! Does anyone have any ideas of any good online shops overseas who would might have the parts I am looking for also who would be willing to ship to Canada?That is so Cool,Guy that you owned the exact set for 10 years,I would be very Happy if I get that long once they are both fixed.Guy with your set was the drain pump very expensive when you owned your's then? Thanks again now I am off to the internet to start my search for the parts,I just hope it will not take too long to get them up & running once again,I will keep you all posted & post a video once they are fixed :)
 
North American Model Numbers for Philco-Bendix?

Boy! This search is not going to be easy lol,I did mange to find the identical drain pump so far at easyspares.co.uk this pic was taken from their website :) I guess since the model numbers vary I will have email & post pics of the parts I am looking for?

possibly compatable to "splendide"

that pump looks the same as the pump in my splendide combomatic 6100/model WDC1025-this little combo made by philco italy/antonio merloni.The splendide is commonly found installed in campers,RVs,boats,etc. in north america.
 
Dave, with the proliferation of motorized drain pumps, you might have more success by removing the pump and taking it into an appliance parts place and asking if they have something similar. You do not have to concentrate on brand or model. If they are not busy and have a helpful attitude, they will probably bring out something that you could examine to see if mounting holes match. I don't know the parts places situation in your part of the world, but here, if you treat a veteran parts person with respect and are willing to offer a little something for his trouble, you might have success. Also, if you contact Larry at Modern Parts in Parma, OH with photos of the machine and the pump as well as other parts you might need, he might be able to help because those machines were sold, but not widely, here especially in housing markets where older housing stock put space for laundry units, especially a dryer, at a premium, as I mentioned above. In your photo of the pump, you might wish to make a note about the distance between the mounting holes. Larry has such a vast knowledge of parts, that he might recognize it at once. Good luck.
 
Thank you so much for all of your help & advice Tom I guess I will have to try your advice & contact Larry at Modern parts.I did try over half of the appliance parts stores in Winnipeg no luck,not helpful at all,the appliance shops here seem to just scrap the older models :( Retrofitting the washer with newer style pump might better than trying to find the original :) Thanks again Dave
 
I could help you for parts if you wish....

I can help you for what concerns getting and sending parts if  available here in Italy,  I need to know part number or model (maybe british guys can help determining what's the right model of parts you need)....I don't know well Philco machines.....
I could write/call to some philco part stores and see what they have...

Keep in mind that likely  I can't help you with pump though, assuming your is a 120 volt operating model  the electric parts sold here will not work with your voltage in Canada....
It is also true that  electric operated pumps are pretty much the same operation way,  two wires  to run the motor and inlet-outlet holes so you likely can find a 120 volt  one in Canada from a newer model of FL.... it may change shape but will do it's job anyway you just need to verify the joints to the pump assembly or find a way to make a new base for it...also verify pipes diameter, but that's feasible....

Assuming what you posted is the right pump, I found a similar pump that they say "for philco machines"  mounting   the pump brand askoll which you can notice being slightly different in the motor,  that Askoll  motor assembly   looks is  the same askoll motor  sold as " universal pump"  claimed to be suitable for every kind of washing machines...

Here is an example of the askoll  pump for Philcos similar/ identical? to the one you posted....

 
I think at this point:

You could actually just replace the motor and propeller thing not the whole assembly....

So I think  you could actually just find the right  120 volt opearting motor and propeller assembly to fit in that model of pump...
Here is a link of an universal 230 volt  washing machine pump by askoll that they claim being suitable for Philcos too in the list and generally the  90% of  all washing machines, I believe is the same mounted on the Philco pump I posted before....

Anyway the universal pump in this link is claimed to be suitable for Philco in the list of the machines it  fits so it should be fine I guess......

1980s Stack pair by Philco

We did see [ and work on ] quite a few of these sold under the Magic Chef name, the washers were not too bad, the dryer is JUNK I never saw one that worked very long, if you can fix it easily without any further cost to you go for it, but I would cut my losses and not spend even another $20 dollars on it.
 
Thanks all for all of your help I guess I will cut my losses & walk away for before throwing an more good money after bad.Was looking so forward to using this set in my new place this set met my needs for the house.I guess sometimes you win some & you lose big one others,Thanks All for Trying
