Pic Tubes replaced!

I remember in the 60s early color sets had pic tubes replaced with the rare earth phospher pic tubes without the safety glass on them.My 1956 ctc5 color set still has the 21axp22a metal pic tube dated aug 13 1956 still in it and still very bright. My set though needs recapping,i watch it some still has good color though.Mine cost 795 in56 its called the Dartmouth model, very Danish looking.Ive had it now for 42 years.I got it when I was 19.

GREAT THREAD LOUIE.....

I, as you can tell from my profile pic am a BIG
Vintage Audio / Visual fan. Those "Roundie" color
RCA's are Awesome. Everything appears to be in
"Technicolor".

They are Great Sets, but do need to be kept up.
As with anything make sure dust is blown out,
and try to put a cooling fan on the back, or
underneath if there is a ventilation screen for
the chassis. It will make a big difference in
removing heat from the inside.

Yes. #18 is a Newer Tube. Good Eye. That is the
label of '70s Tubes and the Seller does state it
is a '71 Colorama in his description.

Thanks again Louie. Keep 'em coming. Of course
this make you an "Enabler" you know / LOL.

Hey, glad you like it Louis. So many of us like vintage electronics so I thoughr, "Why not?". After getting my KDS-58, the Calypso Washer and dryer, I really want to find a nice console stereo, like that stunning Zenith in reply #2.

Muntz...

Was known in old time TV shops as The Gutless Wonder!!!LOL, I know all the younger set thinks that these new flat screens are the stuff, but If you ever see a properly adjusted round tube in proper "Dim" lighting, it is the most natural lifelike color ever.

Hans:

What exactly do you mean by Muntz being known as a Gutless Wonder? That it did a great job with few innards? Or that it was anything but great?

Same here, as newvista58(Louis) - love the thread, you always find interesting things, as well, Louie.

I'll be absent for more than a week, as we do our annual trip to Michigan. I don't have a truck, or I'd stop along the way, probably -lol!

Yeah, the vintage color tv sets are getting more expensive in certain markets. People have high expectations of anything they can slap the word, "vintage" onto, even if the item is bedraggled and begging for burial.

YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THE WORD "VINTAGE" PHIL...

As soon as that word is attached to any object,
it changes everything and raises the stakes,
whether it's warranted or not.

The truth is that with the Audio / Visual
items, they are only worth what someone
is willing to pay for them. Someone has
to really love a certain TV, etc. for what it
is, as alot of these do not have mass appeal,
even amongthe Vintage collectors, at large.

They can ask what they want for it....Doesn't
mean they'll get it.

Hey Where's Justin / CountryFord. I thought you
might Like this thread too :)
