Vintage GE Refrigerator - $80 (Jessup PA)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This is a total steal at $80

I would jump on this one if it were closer -- and if it was hinged on the right.

You're correct Phil -- somebody should get this one.

I have one a few years older than this and it works great. Only had to blow out the defrost drain hose. If you go get it remember it is very very very heavy. Bring a dolly and some strong folks with you.

Louie - I THINK the Height Is:

67 inches. That's the height given in the '71 full-line catalog for the TCF-17A, which was a substantially similar unit and the last year for this design, which had its beginnings in 1957 as the first Straight-Line Design fridge design.

There is a caveat: The TCF-17A is listed as a 16.9 cu. ft. unit. The 13 cu-ft. unit was shorter, as I well know, because I grew up with one of those.

So, if this is a 16.9-footer, it should be 67 inches. If it's a 13-footer, it would be shorter.

The 1957 models this unit was based on were the 15 cu.ft. BH-15P, which was 71 inches tall, and the 13 cu. ft. BH-13P, which was 64 inches tall.

Hope something in here helps.

Louie...

I called the guy Gregg who has it, as I mentioned in the other thread on the pink Frigidaire d/w, I'd be willing to pick it up for you, but he said someone was coming tomorrow - hope it is you! If so good luck!

Hi Roger, yeah that would be me. Thanks for the offer, but I was going to western NJ anyway tomorrow and I was getting "untied" earlier than I thought. So a quick ride from where I was going to be. I don't know anything about dishwashers, so I wouldn't know how to uninstall it. Sorry.  But thanks again!

Smaller size 1964 GE bottom refrigerator

These were good refrigerators, however I think the 34" wide single evaporator refrigerators are superior to the 30-1/2" wide models overall for many reasons. The 34" models had much better temperature control [ each compartment had its own thromostat and fan ] and the foods food added to the fresh food section were cooled to safe temperatures MANY times faster than ANY refrigerator ever built until many high end refrigerators built today.

So unless space is an overriding problem I wold hold out for the superior 34" wide models.

Thanks for the heads-up John. While it may not be as good as the larger model, I decided to go for it for various reasons. Condition, door swing, color and price. As I mentioned earlier, I am keeping my current GE as a secondary fridge/freezer. Now I can get rid of the chest freezer I have in the kitchen. YAY!
