Super Kool!!!These mixers are still sold today out of the Williams Somona catalogs for over 2 grand!!!Like how the machine in the ad has the food processor attachments-a REAL METAL meat grinder-not the plastic ones sold today.Deer hunters I have known complain the plastic KA grinders crack from heavy deer meat grinding sessions.

A sweet little dinosaur

Lots of wannabees want one of these in their kitchens because Julia Child used one on one of her shows. I've used them at work and they're great but they suffer from the same drawback as other larger Hobart mixers.

The problem with the N-50's for some home cooks is that it's a gear-driven, not governor-controlled mechanism. If one doesn't follow the important direction to turn the mixer off before changing speeds, and there are only 3 here, one will damage the drive and require an expensive repair call.

I stopped seeing these even in professional kitchens 30 years ago because their enhanced strength isn't necessary for whipping cream and mixing cookie batters
(they used to be referred to as "Cream Whippers" in equipment catalogs). Also, when KitchenAid started selling NSF rated models, the N-50 lost its mandate. If I had that kind of money I'd spend it on an Electrolux Assistant.
