Hi boys , I'm on the scrounge again.
I'm not sure what its correct name is but I will call it the filter flow spout / outlet which on my Hotpoint twin tub is very badly corroded.
Austin and myself had a go at repairing it but its beyond that point.
Would anyone have any idea where I might get one ?
I know it's a long shot but as always , any help would be very much appreciated.
I have put a short video of it on youtube.

Hi Lance,

I will have a rumage, I think I might have one, but am un-sure of the condition. Those filter clean nozzle's are a bit of a nightmare, they are made of a hard rubber, not plastic, hence why you never emptied the wash tub by attaching an emptying hose to the nozzle, but emptied by the valve box.
I will let you know.

Valve box

Hi Al the metal square in the corner has a rubber flap. To empty push hose into hole and it cuts off supply to filter tray, mine had rotted and I had to block it completely as it sprayed water up in the air. I then had to hold a later super matic pipe over the filter spout ( it's not an ideal fit ). Lance could this not be replaced by a later plastic one ? I know it would not be original but would work. Have you the red filter tray ?

Hi Lance & Ricky,
You maybe able to adapt a newer filter flow nozzel, but could be tricky as the last supermatic's f/f nozzel had the entry at the top. You could turn it upside down keep the bend and about an inch of the hose and push this into the entry hose at the back of the tub..if you want me to have a look for the spare i have drop me a line.
Cheers
Keith

Valve Box

I presume that this feature disappeared with the introduction of the round tub models, I certainly remember our unheated 1420 having the valve box. I was only 12 or 13 when the spinner went bang sometime in the early 1980's so wasn't sure how emptying actually worked. Thanks for clearing this up for me, it makes sense now as I remember if you didn't push the hose in far enough you would get emptying and water coming out of the filter flow. By the way does anyone know if the unheated 1420 had a different model designation?
Thanks
Ian.

Spinner motors

'Spinner went bang'... Not usually quite so dramatic, but filled the room with smoke. My mother's Hotpoint twin-tub ate about 6 or 8 motors before she gave up on it. :-( . It wasn't actually the motors at fault, but the start relay. the relay contacts would weld, and the motor was doomed about 30 seconds later....

I have a GOOD spinner motor (the last one fitted) in stock somewhere... ;)

All best

Hi boys

Well the filter flow spout is worse than it looks, it now spurts water from the sides and over the edge of the machine.
The other emptying outlet is fine as myself and Austin repaired that a few weeks ago .
A more modern spout won't work as we have already tried that and it is impossible to interchange the two .
So Keith , once again , if you could look for that spout I would very much appreciate it.
Sorry Ricky , forgot to say , yes I do have the red filter tray , hence I would like to keep the machine as original as possible .
Cheers guys
Lance

Sorry not to be able to help on the spares front, Lance.

Hopefully the required component will surface somewhere, so you can get the machine operating as it should.
Fingers crossed.

Hi Ian,
Was this the machine you had when you were growing up ??? Yet to be discovered. The Hotpoint supermatic 1420. This would be my all-time best machine, the styling is great.
Lance, I will try and have a look over the weekend to see if i can find the filter flow nozzel.
Cheers
Keith

Filterflow

Sorry to hear about the nozzle Lance, is this the model Austin picked up from Stafford? I was sure that one had all pipes replaced? are you using it as a boil wash daily driver then?

Dont have any spares for these so creativity ensues, but am sure Keith will come up trumps for you!!

I wonder if those new 3 D Printers will be suitable for re-producing vintage parts like these?

Hi Mike ,

Yes , this is the machine from Stafford and generally it is in great condition.
As you said , all the internal hoses have been replaced but the filter flow spout is absolutely buggered.
I looked at the ebay listing for the one that Darren bought last year and that one appears to have a hard plastics spout rather than a rubber one. Perhaps the design was changed as the model progressed.
How's filming for "Endeavour " going?

1420 Supermatic

Hi Keith
Yes that's the one! The only difference being that as it was unheated it only had the wash timer. Wash tub, filter tray and outlet and drain plug in the bottom of the tub all in wonderful turquoise. In the flesh the spinner deck was a much darker grey than your picture shows and was hinged and opened back to the spinner lid. Been thinking carefully about it recently it must have been about 18 years old when it went, I suspect this is only due to the fact that I remember Mum saying that the spinner had to have a major repair when it was nearly out of guarantee, unfortunately she's no longer with us to check what this was, and it was four or five years before I was born but I would like to bet it was the infamous powder clutch. From that point onwards it was utterly reliable and needed only a couple of hoses in the following 17 years. I too would love to come across another, especially the unheated one but I would have thought that they would have been rarer. I've just thought, the worktop was red formica not the blue, but it was usually covered with some flowery fablon from Woollies!
It was replaced by a Supertwin 108 that only stayed for five years or so before the Philips AWB066 arrived.
That's brought back a lot of memories of a great machine

Ian
