Vintage Kelvinator Electric Dryer - Brunnerville, PA - $35

Pictures are not very good, but I'd have to guess it's a mid to late 50s model.   It looks like it could be a good mate to the '57 ABC-O-Matic...  

 

Seller did a pretty fair job describing this - funny that they mention '110 volt' and show a picture of the timer dial reading '110'.... Just sayin'....

It's west of Ephrata. It is probably the less deluxe sister of the one that was here a month or two ago. It must have only been used in bad weather.

Wonder how much better that dryer would be

Compared to a vintage Whirlpool compact/portable like mine.

I mean aside from having a larger drum, does it offer any other benefits such a higher heat/better performance?

I wonder if they mean that, like the GE dryers back then, it was "set up" for 110 volt operation.

Launderess, You are probably only going to get so much heat out of a 120 volt dryer with the limit on wattage. This would would have a larger, heavier drum which would soak up more heat than the WP portable but would give large things more room to tumble. If this has the perforated drum, it might have the heating element in the outer tub which would provide radiant heat which could boost the speed of drying, but I don't know by how much. That 24" WP dryer is pretty damn well engineered. I did run my HOH on 120 for a month or two back in 1981 until I got the 220 volt wiring and it was not too slow.

If ABC and Kelvinator were the same --

It looks like it's probably a wire change that allows for 230 or 115 volt.
