You Did Ask For It...Now Here It Is:
This is a 1968 Model 800 dryer. The washer that would have accompanied this as a match would also be a 1968 800. There were six revisions made to it, and each revision created a new model number. The original model for this was 110.6804800. This washer had a Roto Flex agitator, which was an orange or gold colored agitator, and one of a kind as it had 6 fins but no base to it. The fins flexed with the water currents and were designed to be gentler on clothes than the agitators that preceded it. It was not a long lived design though. Features on the console included a knob that controlled the speeds, which was located on the right side of the cycle dial, and two lever type switches along the base that controlled water level and temperature. This was the same for two revisions following this, 110.6804801, and 110.6804802. As you can see the model numbers were the same except for the last digit, which signified that the revisions made were minor mechanical ones that would be unseen by the user. After that there were four more revisions, which had changes in features which made a difference in their marketing, and these were signified by changes in the second to last digit of the model numbers. There was an 810, 820, 821, and 830. If I am correct, the changes in the console features were that there was only one lever switch which controlled temperature, and the knob that controlled speed now controlled water levels. You had to select a gentle cycle to change speeds. On the models 810, 820 and 821, the agitator was changed from a Rotoflex to a Vari-Flex. This agitator had the base, like typical agitators do, and three fins. The fins were adjustable; you could extend or retract their length by rotating a disc like control at the top of the agitator. You had a choice of four settings from Lo to Hi. This made a tremendous difference in the wash action. The last model which was 830 changed the agitator to a Super Rotoswirl agitator. This agitator had the base, and three stationary fixed fins. However unlike the other two agitators, the fins were spiral in design as they stemmed from the agitator shaft, with the last inch of them straight. You won't have to go to far through this site to catch a glimpse of one, as this was a premier agitator on Kenmores during this time period. The other two are fairly prominent in this forum as well. If I am to guess, the matching washer to your dryer may have been the 810, 820 or 821. I am thinking the 810, which would mean it had the Vari-Flex agitator (adjustable fins) with the console having the lever switch for temperature control, the auxiliary knob to regulate water level, and the cycle selection for different speeds. One feature they all have in common is the flourescent light, which is what you are searching for on the dryer.
I am curious. I observe that the dial housing is a little different than other versions of your model dryer. Typically the dial is flat and round, however it looks to me like your dryer should have the stem type knob like the washer would, but is missing it. Is this the case?
Anyway, now that your eyes are tired from my lengthy post, good luck in finding the replacement bulb. It should be an fairly easy find.
Have a good one,
James
