Hello my friends

In the uk in the 1960s we used the kitchen aid dishwasher clone as a swan maid. I’m trying to repair one and the t shaped rubber hose from pump outlet to wash arm support has perished.

Were there on the USA models and do you know if there’s any spares we could get sent over from USA to uk

Most luckily I remembered getting a box of swan maid parts so whilst at a Als I thought I’d look. Firstly amazed I found the box and even more amazed in the box was not one but two brand new ones !!

It won’t get fitted today as it’s at another house.

But many thanks for your help

Parts for 1957 vintage swan maid dishwasher

Hi Richard, hope you find a part you need there is no similarity between your dishwasher and the American KitchenAid whatsoever. I don’t think they had anything to do with each other. I have lots of parts going back to 1950 for KitchenAid machines made in the US and I’ve never seen anything like your dishwasher

We luckily found a spare part. I was sure this machine resembled early kitchen aids it has the large cast iron wash arm and basket layout.

I have a later version that has a different door design and a programmer but the same wash arm inside.

Yes, it looks like they definitely took a hard look at the KitchenAid and copied some details of it. I suspect but there’s nothing that’s really the same that I see, the design of the lower cast-iron washer is certainly similar. That’s for sure.

Glad you found the part is this going to become a daily driver or part of your cool collection?

I’ve donated it !!

This was languishing in my garage which has to be emptied so it’s gone to another collector who has a second kitchen which is full of period machines. It will live there.

It’s quite an unusual design. There is a copper kettle in the base ( swan maid was made by a tea kettle manufacturer) you press the switch and this starts the kettle heating, you load the machine and close the door once the temperature is set the timer opens the inlet valve taking in cold water that pushes the hot water into the cabinet as the pump runs. The wash happens while the serving kettle of water heats. This is repeated until the cycle completes. Everything done in about 30 mins.

That is if it gets going !!
