Not "1930's" areas did not have electircal power. Sorry for the typo.

In parts of Western Europe, meat still went bad for lack of electrical power for refrigeration as late as the 1960's! Of course one has to account for WWII disrupting things.

Meat still goes bad in modern fridges that aren't working properly.

Like one of my docs said... food poisoning is far more common than is generally known. You'd think that in this day of modern conveniences, it wouldn't be. But even the best fridge is useless when the food handlers contaminate things and then leave them at room temperature out of the cooler too long.
