Never saw one like that before, is that metal screening? mine is plastic.
I'm not sure about the year, but the blue plastic is by far the most common. This type of poly/plastic/whatever is the only one I've ever seen.

The filter that Rich has for sale is the early nylon-mesh filter. This was used from January 1966 through sometime in 1967, in which at that time they changed to the plastic mesh filter that we are used to. I've used the nylon mesh filter with some frequency and will say that it is a superb filter, much better than the later version - but a PAIN to clean! Probably the reason for the change.
Maytag was beginning to remove the chrome goodies from the A806 line starting in 1972. I've been meaning to check in the Tech Talk books but sometime in 1972 or 73 is when they put an ax to the chrome lint filter and chrome strip on the front of the machines. In a few weeks I'll do more research at Greg's for all the change dates.
Unfortunately your particular machine did not come with the chrome filter Jed. I've only run across 2 or 3 chrome filters in all the A806 machines I've found. Even the '72 harvest gold set I have now didn't come with the chrome filter.

I guess the inscription on the bottom ends the uncertainty - its stainless steel, not chrome on these filters. I suppose chrome wouldn't hold up as well. I never realized there was a short and a long filter, but now that I think of it, it makes a lot of sense.
Yes, I've cleaned this completely since I took the picture. I have so far resisted putting it in the dishwasher... but might be willing to see how a non stainless model holds up to the Bosch.

Dan - I've taken one of those small white bristle fingernail brushes to clean the filter out. Worked out quite well.
Unfortunately the filter was in heavy use and did not see frequent cleaning from the individuals using it. Normally you would be able to roll it off but the lint can get packed into the woven nylon and requires a bit more persuasion to be set free.
