Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's my pleasure. Original ads aren't always enough. I wish my washer-dryer combo would die so I could get a set of GEs or Frigidaires from '59. And would anyone have a picture of a white BOL '58 GE Filter-Flo? My parents bought one in Fort Knox, Kentucky, went to Lynchburg, Virginia, then to this house in Florida. Then I think in '65 they got a Wizard, few years later a Kenmore, then the last was a Maytag, after Mom broke her knee and elbow, my brother bought us this nice heavy duty Frigidaire stacked washer/dryer. Never had a problem, but it's not old enough......

I wish I had payed more attention

to the insides of stores when I was younger. I sort of remember the hi fi dept. of Miller & Rhodes (Lynchburg,VA) when Mom and I were visiting my uncle John. I did find Mom's BOL GE washer in the Fun Things section of the main page. Had a neat dryer, these units are reminiscent of the gorgeous Control Tower Frigidaires you know who has. We never had a dryer until after Mom hurt herself.

Grand stores

I know what you mean. My parents bought all their white goods at a great store called Hampton Sales that was on the corner of Park Avenue South and 28th street(it's now a Walgreens). It was back in the day when you knew the salesman and he was YOUR salesman. They were a GE/Hotpoint dealer so there were rows of washers, dishwashers and dryers in the center of the floor, just like in your picture, refrigerators lining the room, with TV sets on the walls and small appliances in the back. All in all they must have bought 11 different appliances from that store between 1961 and 1970. The last store in NYC even close to that would be Gracie Hardware uptown on 3rd Avenue.
