That would have to be a 1957 model. 1957 was the first year for "Lady Kenmore"

The seller just sent me these...

Yes it's a 1957 Lady Kenmore, exactly like mine. This is a 50amp dryer which makes it nice and speedy. I love this dryer.

That's hot!

watts x 3.413 = BTU

(50a) 8,600 watts x 3.413= 29,352 BTU [say 29,000 rounded.]

(30a) 5,000 watts x 3.413= 17,065 BTU [say 17,000 rounded.]

IIRC domestic gas dryers are 22,000 BTU, but it should be noted that gas combustion gives off water-vapor, so perhaps 17k btu electric = 22k gas.

Use it or not, I think it would be nice to keep the two components together as opposed to seperating them. If I could buy them both I would. If someone just saved the dryer but doesn't want the vent attachment then maybe I can bid on it so someone in the club could have it for one of their machines.

I tried to find it last night and couldn't, but I have a picture somewhere of a woman illustrated in front of the machine, fluffing her hair. I can't imagine Sears would let Norge get the jump on the hair-drying market segment! I would guess that the directions said to NOT dry clothes while using it to dry your hair.

That has got to be the sweetest laundry pair ever made. "So choice, if you have the means I highly recommend picking one up."

Hmm...

"I tried to find it last night and couldn't, but I have a picture somewhere of a woman illustrated in front of the machine, fluffing her hair."

A 50-amp dryer used to dry hair! So- I'm guessing this was not an Energy Star-rated appliance, huh? ;-)

Is 50amp service even allowed by code for residential wiring anymore? That is allot of power!

As for the auction, it isn't over until it is over. Much of the eBay action these days takes place the last hour and few minutes/seconds of an auction.

Not withstanding the above statement, it may also simply be another case of thems that want being too far from the unit.

Stoves. Sometimes a 40a circuit sometimes a 50a circuit.

Can this dryer be dumbed-down to work on a 30 electrical line? Pehaps by disconnecing (and this is pure conjecture) one of two heating elements?

Yes you can wire the dryer to run on 30 amps only, but running this 50amp dryer at full power on a 40amp circuit should be fine as well. It maximun amperage draw is while it is running is just slightly above 30 amps. It's only for a few seconds that it peaks over 40 amps when the heater is energized.

No takers?? I think the seller got greedy by listing the room heater seperatly and that turned off a lot of people.
