Help Support :

Cory/cadman you might get with Kelly/mixfinder he might be able to help you with getting the radarange.  I think he is going to travel to Kansas City to visit his family there.  So would be closer to you.

I'm not sure which is potentially more hazardous, a 60 year old Radarange, or a fluoroscopy machine from a Buster Brown shoe store...

Iowegian - I never saw one of these Amana's. I read that Tappan bought Amana in 1965, so any idea how old?

Keep us posted...klato beranga...[this post was last edited: 10/15/2012-18:10]

Good idea to post the photo.

Does it not look like a toy robot? It reminds of some of the toy robots imported from Japan.

Maybe this thing can be hacked to become a laser that reaches the moon...I'd better stop here.

Bringing this beast home will be quite a chore, but I'll be sure to take lots of pictures. As I understand it, it's clean as a pin and operational! Not sure I'd trust it until I've given it a thorough going-thru. Unfortunately, you can see someone added that meat locker latch, LOL. There's supposed to be an attractive horizontal grab bar across the front which I'll try to recreate.

Phil, it was actually Raytheon that bought Amana. They had the Radarange but no retail arm. In the 50’s they contracted with a number of popular appliance manufacturers...Tappan, Westinghouse, RCA Whirlpool, etc and provided designs and components that allowed those companies to offer their own versions of "electronic ovens". Due to the size and price, they were commercial flops. If I recall, Combo52 actually snagged one a couple years back.

all that's needed

is an apron which reads either:

"More time for misbehavin' since I started microwavin," or the essentially similar

"More time for lovin' since I started cooking in a microwave oven."

Yes, these were real items in the 1980s, I did not buy one, but I was thinking about doing so. Fortunately, I took aspirin, and then a nap, and the feeling passed.

Cory: I read that Tappan bought Amana - on the web, of course another wrong bit of info disseminated. Glad you know. Combo52 snagged a radarange oven made in the 1950s? That's cool - it had to be heavy and big. I read they cost $2-3K..but never saw any ads.

How timely, Halloween is coming, "It's alive, It's alive!" :-)

Interesting, that the original handle is missing...I see the horizontal grab bar holes, now that you mention it.

Maytagbear: "more time for lovin..." lol, there's a commercial for sure

You should put it out on the porch for Halloween for trick or treat, kids will think it is a robot. Put an orange light inside too for a funky jack o latern.

I remember seeing the big MW's on the Price is Right and that they could bake a pie in 2 minutes.  Did it while bidding I do think it was Tappen.  I don't remember the price but do remember my dad saying was like buying a car.  Bill Cullen ate some of the pie too.
