Has anybody noticed the proliferation of vintage ranges in TV shows lately, i.e. the range in "Everybody Loves Raymond"? By the way, what is that range? Any other shows that have vintage ranges in their kitchens?

Ray and Debra's range is an O'Keefe and Merritt from the '40s or early '50s. This seems to be the most common range on TV, which is odd 'cause they don't exactly abound in real life.

On "Six Feet Under" Ruth had an avocado Wedgewood range (I think) from the '60s, but after a few episodes it was replaced with a '40s O'K&M reporcelained in avocado.

There's a commercial for Bounty with a little girl playing with a puppy that has a vintage range. Not sure what kind.

And anyone who is a fan of Rachael Ray (The Only Woman Worth Going Straight For) knows she has some kind of vintage stove with a weirdass broiler in the top. The fridge is one of those fakes, though.

Rachael's weirdass broiler

Rachael Ray uses a 1940s Chambers gas range. It their day Chambers stoves were the absolute top of the line, with deep well cookers and pop-up broilers underneath the griddle.

Trivia note: If you watch the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre ('74), there's a Chambers in Leatherface's kitchen!

Chambers ovens--

Are wonderful. They are hyperinsulated, and the concept goes that you preheat to your desired temperature, open the oven quickly, put in the food, close it, and then turn off the gas.

I think more people would broil with the countertop level broiler.

Maytag made a similar range too, called the "Maytag Dutch Oven." Less elaborate, and without the countertop broiler.

I'm really surprised that they haven't come back into production.

For a while, when KitchenAid started making cooking appliances, they had the Chambers patents, and made Chambers gas cooktops with the "Daisy" pattern burners.

My friend Marc has a Chambers range, and I am tempted to marry him for it. I haven't, (and probably won't,) because he doesn't believe in dishwashers.
He claims he doesn't want to mess up the look of his semi-vintage kitchen. I've shown him paneled dishwashers, and the KitchenAid briva sink/dishwasher, but he hasn't bit, so far.

Think Chambers is the ultimate

stove to have. I think you buy them for life. A few years ago a friend of mine found one at an estate sale, wish I could have gotten it.
