LOL, I remember Mom bringing one of those home from Goodwill in the 60's. I thought it was really dumb; you have to flip the bread to toast both sides. Of course, now, it would be perfect for bagels ;-).
Another cheap toaster was a simple metal trapezoid that you put over a gas burner on the stove. I guess it worked, at least as well as over a campfire.

Not worth anywhere near $75..maybe $10 tops, there's an abundance of those things about. They're still made as well.
