agitator in picture 2

the agitator of that whirlpool washer my grandmother old inglis liberator washer 3 cycle push to start pull to stop had the excat same agitator and the same see true lint filter brush and same lid could this mean my grandmother inglis liberator washer that she no longer has today was a 1962 model only diffrence it had 5 wash rinse temp knob?

Basic Surgilator....

that black agitator was the standard for many years in bakelite.....around 1970ish the polypropylene ones were introduced, which extended the base fins a bit, known as Super.....Double Duty Super I found to be their best one, full wavy fins up to the very top, and wings at the bottom for Handwashing...

BOL units only got the nubbed cap.....shiny chrome, and then later all white plastic, full caps were used on higher up models....

the MagicMix Dispenser Filter Brush was used for many years...until the option of the Magic Clean filters were introduced for higher end models...loved this type, but a PITA to clean

other versions of "Bed of Nails" type manual filters were used to replace the brush style....

there were even snap-in type manual filters way before the surgilator was created...

there was some great award handed out to the company that created the DIE to cast the Surgilator's wavy fins.....I can't find that article at the moment...

My grandma had that dryer. I'm surprised to learn its a 72 model, I always thought it was older than that. It still worked in 2004 when it was sold at the estate sale. I so wish I had my own place back then and was able to save it.

We had the 62 dryer , which I'd love to find ...I remember watching my dad run the vent across the ceiling in our basement, when we lived in Potomac. It was horribly noisey, untill a belt broke, and I'm not sure which one it was. I also remember it had a very long vent line, half metal, and the rest was that flexible white plastic. I wondered why it looked so similar to my friends 61 Kenmore dryer, inside the drum... This dried everything that came out the 54 Westinghouse Laundromat[this post was last edited: 1/20/2020-18:04]

Thanks for telling us about them Maytagringer guy.  I hope someone can save them.

That washer is nearly 60 years old.   I would have thought the dryer was late 60s. I thought by 70 they had done away with the split control panels.

Dryer is still available if anyone is interested, washer sold today. Unfortunately, I have not been able to test any of the vintage washer/dryer sets I have listed because they came out of houses that had the electric and/or water turned off. I buy stuff from a few guys that buy and flip houses and most of the time the power can't get turned on until upgrades are made to pass current inspections.
