indoor/outdoor use

Every string of c-7 lights I've seen always say "For Indoor use only" wheereas the c-9's say indoor or outdoor use.

twinkle lights for Peter

Peter, I believe I have a few of the old GE twinkle lights which you are most welcome to. Also, I have occassionally seen new ones at an old Ace Hardware store near my house. I'll check as soon as they put their xmas stuff out.

If any of you come across any of the small C6 bulbs you don't want I'd love to take them off your hands.

Les

outdoor sets

Both c-7 AND c-9 sets can be used outdoors if the wires are outdoor rated wires. When the energy crunch of the 70's appeared, c-7 lights were then manufactured to work outdoors and still are today! Mark

Love all the vintage Christmas stuff! I still put up the 7 foot aluminum pom pom Christmas tree that I grew up with as a kid. It is complete with the rotating stand and color wheel. I have a collection of about 40 color wheels, many of which are in the original boxes. I also have MANY vintage ornaments and Christmas lights, including C6's and bubble lights. All this brings back good memories. I think I posted a picture of my Christmas tree during the holidays last year. Happy vintage holidays to all!

c-9 sets

I was surprised to see c-9 sets at my local hardware store, what with this trend toward "icicle" and "tiny"lights. What's really annoying is now we back to the problem of finding the bad connection since these newer lights are wired in series like the old c-6 lights. Just like "bagless" vacs are a step backward in having to deal with loose dirt again.

Christmas Albums

One of my favorite things at Christmas is the cheesy records that companies used to put out as gifts to customers. This is not an exclusively Christmas phenomina, but the majority of them seem to be associated with the holidays.

Some of them, like the Firestone Christmas Collection, has some good stuff on it, but others are just a bunch of recycled stuff pressed on cheap vinyl. But the covers are great.

In the spirit of those covers, and with apologies to Donna Reed (who I actually don't think would take offense) I offer you this:

Donna, you've never looked lovelier.

Wouldn't be Christmas without Patti Page and The Lennon Sisters.

Oh, and Bing/Andrews Sisters. Andy Williams. Mitch Miller...

What an excellent post.

Greg, I like those bright candoliers and how cool that you have the original boxes. (nice wide painted woodwork and floors, too)

Mark, nice little house in W. Virginia. A Jew celebrating Christmas with an aluminum Christmas tree and a weener dog that wears shoes. There isn't anything wrong with that! Does your adorable dog keep her shoes on or does she try and remove them?

Dan, I know what you mean about those albums. We had one make by Goodyear, lol, unlike all other records I know of it was red. Which I thought was just the coolest. The sleeve looked like a present complete with a bow in the middle and a To/From Tag.

Honey looks like a REAL Honey!
