...Okay, maybe not shredding laundry. But I have noticed that my washer is very rough on towels and creates a ton of lint. Many of my cleaning cloths come out with tears or frayed edges after a while as well. The kicker for me was after washing a nice set of sheets. I pulled them out of the dryer and noticed little cuts, not all the way through the fabric but visible. They're all the same size. This isn't the first set of sheets to get damaged either.
Any idea what could be causing this?

Check the perforated drum for little burrs on the metal finish, using a material that's easily 'pooked', such as a pair of old tights/pantyhose/stockings, etc.

Two of the machines I have had, had this very issue. I had to use very fine-grade emery paper to rub the burrs down. One of the machines had a drum weld on the drum inner surface, which was pretty rough to be next to delicate clothes.

The burrs can be very small indeed.

A little update...

I took the agitator out of the basket and inspected it. I didn't find any sharp spots on it or the tub whatsoever. I also looked over the dryer drum once again and found nothing. I can only think of aggressive wash action but it has a wide agitation arc... I've never had this big of an issue with other top loaders. I am again stumped.

Update...

I had dismissed this issue for a while until I noticed one of my favorite shirts came out of the wash with a gash in it. This was not there before... I normally notice a tiny pinhole here or there, but this is new. Its a clean cut right across the fibers, about 1/4 of an inch. I remember a similar thread on here about this issue with direct drive machines.

Is there anything else I can try to fix this issue? I'd like keep the set but if this persists I may have to look at other options.
