Top on my list:

Persil "Black Magic/FEWA" - smells like cheap hair dye and is very over powering. Damn scent lingers days in the cupboard so even a week later when wearing the garment, one smells like a loose tart.

Tide Coldwater "Glacial" scent - VERY overpowering scent. Smells sweetly sickly and also lingers a long time on garmets.

stinky detergent

Sears Plus with fabric softener liquid has a strong ammonia smell and never leaves any scent behind when clothes are taken out of the dryer. Also Dynamo liquid has a strong medicine scent. Neither is one of my favorites. My absolute favorite is Tide with Downy (soft ocean mist scent). This scent leaves clothes smelling somewhat like classic Downy from the 1970's and it stays in the clothes longer than any other brand that I have ever used. I hope P&G does not discountinue this from the Tide lineup. It is getting hard to find lately. I use it in both my top and front loaders, but beware, it is very high sudsing. Only use half in the front loaders. However it still leaves clothes smelling great.
 
Scent memory is the most persistent...

My personal favorite is Tide powder with Bleach. I recognized that scent instantly as the original Dash and I still say that the bastards at P&G simply repackaged Dash XL into Tide with Bleach!!! Also, it's been more than 35 years since I last smelled a box of Salvo, but I swear that Tide HE powder (the one with the yellow speckles) is repackaged Salvo. They claim it isn't and that their formulas are all "proprietary" but I think they're lying.

Hey, I can still remember what "VIM" smelled like.
 
I really don't have a problem with stinky detergents as I stick to "Original Scent" and the like. I always thought regular Gain had a bath-soap scent which wasn't too bad. The only thing that most people wouldn't care for is its extremely high suds!

The worst offenders in my opinion are "Mexican-y" detergents with strong, overpowering flower scents. Strange because most TRUE Mexican detergents such as Ariel OxiAzul and Roma have a pleasant smell to them. Foca, however, is nauseating...EWWWWWW.
 
Bitter, not sweet YECH

Tide HE liquid, original. Terrible odor. Does not go away. Able to kill it with only a few fabric softeners. Where as the towels washed in Surf tablets emerged from the dryer with no fragrance left when I would have liked some to remain, the Tide survives everything, even rinsing in a top loader & spinning at 1600 rpm. Have never seen the free & clear HE liquid Tide. Don't have any gripe with the smell of the Tide powder HE. It goes away.

Some fragrances I would like to have as air fresheners: original Oxydol, original Tide, original Dash, original Ajax, original StaPuf, original Final Touch.

There is a fragrance sold at Victoria's Secret: Heavenly, I believe, that is exactly the scent in the old GE air freshener cartridge behind the key or button on the control panel. A lady in my office sometimes wears this fragrance.

Tide Mountain Stinch, then let's load the Fabric softner of the SAME stinch into the rinse.

GAIN. Splenda anyone?

The WORST fabric softener is Snuggle Free or something like that. It's in a white bottle. It actually has no scent but I'm very allergic to it.

Favorite detergent. Original Tide, Fresh Start, Purex, Fab. All the original scent stuff. The only FS in my house will be Downy April Fresh.
 
Cold water tide

My two cents worth!

Used cold water tide once with a sample when it first came out. Later on bought a small jug to test wash a few loads with.

It stinks HANDS DOWN in cleaning and smells!

The straw that broke the camel's back was it started to leave dark spots on our color clothes. Had 1/2 of bottle left so I gave it away.

My sister-in law uses Cold Water Tide for everything but there again she doesnt's care how her clothes look either. Her clothes always look dirty. Her theory of doing laundry is in the washer in the dryer. Opps! It didn't come clean! So what! GEEZ!

We use Tide with Fabreeze. Light scent and cleans very well.

Wow, our experience with Tide Coldwater couldn't be more different. I'll agree the liquid doesn't have the same stain-removing power as the powdered version (which is what I use), but even the liquid did a good job for me. Plus, I use temp-controlled cold water (65 degrees). When I did a load of highly stained kitchen whites with winter-cold (about 45 degrees) water, stains didn't come out quite as well. I also have softened water and that generally helps detergents clean better.

Cleaning results using powdered Tide CW coupled with a dose of Clorox in temp-controlled cold water beats using Tide HE (which I used for several years) and Clorox in 145 degree hot water. At least for me.

I haven't moved my temp control off COLD for many months and my clothes are spotlessly cleaned.
 
Cold water tide

Where we live in North Georgia the city water is not the greatest nor is it the worst. Also our GE TL washer does not have temp. controlled cold water even though it has the stainless steel wash basket. Probaly why Home Depot had it on sale for $395.00 last November.

I'm glad to see somebody had good results with Tide CW!

seeitrun06-- My sister really likes her GE TL'er. Hers is BOL, though, so no SS tub. Many TL'ers don't have a temp-controlled cold feature. Frankly, I never thought I'd wash anything---much less white loads--- in cold water, but powdered Tide CW has made a believer of me. Between using cold water and replacing every incandescent bulb in my house with a compact flourescent, I suppose I'm saving a buck-or-two in energy costs each month. Not much, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, I suppose, LOL.

My wife and I really like the GE TL also. It holds about 3.3 cubic feet of clothes (I think that's the way it's measured).

Since we don't have kids we can get by doing laundry twice a week, about 6-loads. It also really extracts a lot of water out of the clothes during the spin.

One thing we started using is Arm & Hammer washing soda in our towels and whites. We were having a problem getting the smell out of the towels and wash clothes. Since using the soda our towels are fresh smelling ounce again. We wash them in warm water. Can't use chorine bleach as my wife is allergic to it.

If we ever get our dream machine(when we can afford it)-GE Front Loader I'm quite sure we will give Tide CW a try once again.

My vote goes to ANY of the Gain products (especially the new "joyful expressions" line), though I loved the original Gain scent of the 70's and 80's.

Next up would be any of the Tide fragrances other than original powder. They are all just too overpowering.

And finally, Ariel is too over the top.

I bought some wal-mart brand detergent one time that was labeled as "pine fresh" or something. The detergent smelled like those little tree air fresheners that people hang from their mirrors inside their cars. Being midly autistic, I am particularly sensitive to smells, and I don't care for stinky detergents. That Wal-mart stuff made me gag! I usually use the Arm & Hammer "free" detergent
