Matt,
Thank you for this thread -- it gave me enough incentive to deal with my wallet that was literally falling apart at the seams. I've been paying attention to wallets in stores for at least 2 years now, trying to see if I'd find something I liked and have not so far. Even the ones that are close to my wallet have fewer slots for cards and I didn't particularly love my wallet, I didn't mind it so much, but never really loved it.
So, I started looking from a different point of view, which is "let's see if I find *something* I want to have, ignoring the price" and off I went.
James (Jp10558) mentioned BigSkinny (http://www.bigskinny.net) and they do have several wallets that grabbed my attention. And indeed, all my wallets so far have been too bulky. So I remembered someone had mentioned other thin wallets, and a quick google brought me to SlimFold (http://www.slimfoldwallet.com).
I got their original soft shell and it just arrived today. It's bigger (length and width) than my old trifold, but I'm very happy that now, even with all the contents (money, driver's license, credit cards etc) from my old wallet inside, it's still thinner than my empty old wallet.
So far, I say, yay!
Take a look at their web site, they have both wallets made from Tyvek and some other material which is thicker and more durable.
If you are handy with a sewing machine you could even try to whip up something similar to what they have (in Tyvek or thin cotton fabric). I was severely tempted, but decided to buy their stuff anyway for a variety of reasons.
Hugs,
-- Paulo.
