Want to get rid off my old sofa

I have an old sofa in my house and I have been trying to get rid of it for quite some time, but I couldn't.

I don't have a car or truck to go and dump it off to any charity and I don't think anyone is willing to come and pick it up. I have posted it on Kijiji and other websites online but people are not willing to come and pick it up.
I didn't want to simply put it on the side of the road because I think the sofa is recyclable.
So I was thinking to go for junk removal services ( https://www.redbins.ca/service-areas/toronto/ ) and I have a schedule for them to give me a price quote for this.

Do any of you helpful people here have any idea about the cost of such services? The sofa is 3 seater and it is on the 1st floor of my house in GTA. I just need a rough idea of the cost and then I can think to continue or not.

If it's a good condition sofa, many of the charity shops will send their own truck to come and pick it up if you're donating. We had Salvation Army come pick one up this way a few years back.

If you're trying to give it away for free, another common and helpful trick is to post it for some nominal amount ($50-100), and mark it as "or best offer" - then accept any non-zero offer anyone makes. People generally steer well clear of "free" sofas, because they figure they must be nasty or broken, have bed bugs, etc. But when they cost something, people think they must be worth something, which drives up interest - and the OBO aspect lets them leave feeling like they got a deal. Everyone is happy.

If your town provides weekly garbage and recycling collection, you should call and inquire about large item pick-up. 

 

In my town, you call the contracted recycling collector, schedule a date, then have your item curbside on the appointed day.  There's no charge for this service.

I would have to say you need to be more specific....

all too many times we see stuff offered on CL for FREE....when all the people really want is for you to remove their rubbish for them...or as somethings, you can't give them away...

maybe post the link to the ad here, lets see what were up against...

I dont know of any organization that doesn't offer free pickup of items...Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrift Shops....but even they have guidelines of knowing what is worth picking up, and what is not....

have seen ads for items listed for FREE, but the instructions for removal are too far fetched....yeah, no one is going to jump through hoops for all that, even for FREE...

also, how do you handle regular trash removal?......for our particular area, for something like a couch or appliance you have to buy a sticker for $3.00....and place this sticker on the item out front on trash night...aka Bulk Pickup...

now if it happens to be a beautiful vintage green couch, in fantastic shape, like what Jerry has in his basement, with the occasional law enforcement displayed on it.....he does all he can to keep us from wanting to steal it from him...

Free on Craigslist??

I rarely list anything for free on Craigslist. I find that people will promise to show up for the item, but don't. Putting a dollar price on the item seems to keep people honest. The lowest price that I post is $5; not worth my time and effort for less than that.

As for your furniture, if no one wants it, you probably just have to junk it. I figure that most items are only worth what people are willing to pay for it (unless it has sentimental value). Furniture items are difficult to find new owners for. It might be time to break out the circular saw, and fit the pieces into a trash barrel, and save the metal for the junkyard.

Habitat for Humanity will come an haul it away.. So long as it's not damaged, filthy, ripped fabrics etc.. I had them come take a lot of furnishing out of my moms house.

Does the area where you live have bulk pickup for furniture if you can't dispose of it by re homing?No need to breakdown the couch yourself-most RL and FL trash trucks can do that for you.Go to the "Classic Refuse Trucks" website and there is plenty of videos of various trash trucks compacting couches.
