Wanted: D&M top rack

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to revive the very handsome and otherwise-in-nice-condition Chambers D&M dishwasher, but I need a replacement top rack--this one is shot beyond belief.

I've attached pics of what the roller mounts look like, and the shape/size of the rollers; I know D&M was all over the board in how those were configured. Or if you can sell me a set of tank rollers and rails that match whatever you have, that may well work too.

This is on a dual-wash-arm machine, no tower, no top constant rinse, with the Westinghousian top rack (shown).

The holes in the middle of the rollers are larger than they should be; I've been trying to engineer a replacement if an original or fit can't be found.

If you want to convert it to a roto-rack.....

I have several top roto-racks and glide assemblies. You would just need to replace the upper washarm with a spray tube (and I may even have some of those). This is of course assuming that your DM dishwasher fed the upper spray arm like all the other ones I have seen.

That might be a really fun project--this one has the standard 45 degree-angle feed tube off the back wall like the rest, so I think it might work; I think the mounting plate for the back would need to be swapped out from the metal one for the wash arm to one that just had a mounting spot for the feed tube--then I could remove and fill the tank rollers and drill new holes in the top for the rack and hanger-glide assembly.

That's a great idea--if the standard rack is a bust and engineering is required, that might be a really fun way to go. I'll check back in with you--thanks so much, Mark!

Why would you NEED to remove the upper spray arm to install the stationary spray tube, except for possible clearance issues between the bottom of the rack / spray arm?

 

Yes it may be counter-productive to have both a rotating spray arm AND a rotating upper rack, but I thought I would pose the question to the experts.

Wash arms and Roto-Racks

I think the clearance would be an issue; the spray arm assembly is a tad higher than the comparable spray-tube mount. But more than that, the only reason for having a Roto-Rack--to me--is the fun; otherwise, you end up losing the corners of your top rack, and for no good reason.

Oh I disagree Nate, there is a very good reason!  

 

The top rack would not spin with those corners in place!!   

 

 

But then, unless you have a large window in the door so you can watch it spin, who cares if it spins, right?   LOL
