Wards Washing Action!

Okay folks, this is my first-ever attempt at using the video function of our digital camera. Hope this works -- couldn't believe it took an hour to upload to YouTube; I must be doing something wrong. Anyway, it isn't the full cycle, and the lighting isn't that great, and Lord does that lint filter clicking make a lot of noise, but it's a wonderful sound, so here you go...

I think the box is the detergent dispenser. But not 100% positive. Nice video. One of my neighbors when I was much younger always had MW washers and dryers, the last one I remember was avocado, and I think she might have had one on coppertone at some time.

Slow to YouTube

If you get a camera that records in MP4 format, it will greatly reduce the upload time. Most cameras record in .AVI format, which looks alright, but makes huge size videos (>200mb for short clips). It's the size of the video that your internet connection chokes on. My camera does .m4v format on my phone and as a result it takes little time to upload and I can upload directly from my phone. When I'm at home and I use my Canon, it does .AVI and those Fridgette vids took easliy several hours each. I like to use a tripod to video, so it forces me to either A.) use the Canon or B.) buy a video camera for YT. I may do the latter someday, but I have yet to find a decent and cheap/free video editor for the PC (suggestions welcome) as I hate Windows Movie Maker. The cameraphone is very temporamental about lighting and suck, so I use it on travel only. I read where a lot of stand-alone camera companies and the like were going under in favor of cameraphones, I can't see how, they're just not there yet unless you go big $$$ for one.

Hi Mark,

That is indeed the detergent dispenser, but per the lid instructions, not to be used for regular wash loads. Instructions indicate the dispenser is used only for the soak cycle that requires detergent be put into the dispenser and to put detergent directly into the tub for the soak cycle. During soak cycle fill, no water is diverted into the dispenser; holding the detergent for regular wash after soak, if selected. After completion of the soak cycle (some agitation, then spin drain) there is an option to advance to the regular wash cycle, where the detergent previously placed in the dispenser would then be released into the tub. So complicated!

I, however, still use the dispenser for regular wash loads since the water flows thru it anyway.

for the answer. I am new to Norge, a late 70's model, no auto-advnce from either pre-wash or soak into the main cycle, so no dispenser like that. I find it to be a well-built and powerful machine, and the burping is effective for soap-dispensing, lint catching, and lots of fun noise.

And I have to say, the burp-up filter does give the GE Filter-Flo a run for its lint. I did a side-by-side comparison of two queen-size sets of flannel sheets just yesterday between GE and Wards with same wash time and have to say that they both came out pretty much even as far as lint removal. And less parts with Wards/Norge -- no pump action for lint straining! Gotta love that Norge technology!

Well the GE doesn't use extra stuff really, the pump is always running with the motor so I think it was "why-not" gimmick. Doesn't the Norge pump run all the time? You could have Super Filtration on that bad boy!
