Hello and Welcome to AW!
I must admit I don't know very much about the new / newer combo units (I have one that's 51 years old). But I have heard that many (most?) of them are 110V rather then 220V and this makes for looooong drying times. I'm pretty sure I've read here you have to be careful how much you put in it per load AND a single load can take 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete.

The only ones I have used and/or sold that are at all any good are the LGs. They come in two different sizes and do a great job. The average cycle takes 4 hours from start to finish and Wascomat has unvailed a commercial one that runs on 220. Its average cycle is 75 minutes!I am hoping they release these under either the Electrolux or Frigidaire brand names for the home.Daewoe also makes a 110 volt model (full size) and you can find it under the Crosley appliance line.
Arthur, yes all user manuals still advise that. In the old days, like 51 years ago, the drums were very large. A 9 or 10 pound load was simply about half the volume of the tub anyway, so you weren't having to remove 1/2 the load. For modern products, you simply only fill it about 1/2 full or so and simply accomplish the same event.

To put that into perspective, 4kg is 8 cotton single bed sheets....
The Haier that you mention is 11lb/6lb or about 4.5kg/2.75kg...
If you can stretch to bigger capacity machine, go for it. Ideally you want to be able to wash and dry an average load in one hit....
In the UK and Australia, that would mean about 4-4.5kg or about 10 or 11lb....
If you have no idea about how much volume in clothes this is, weigh yourself holding the empty washing basket and then start filling it up with mixed items of clothing and then weigh yourself and it again until you reach that weight....you will be very surprised just how much 4kg/10lb is....
