It is hard for me to believe that this review of British television advertising was produced in 1990 and that I have watched it on and off for the last 26 years. It is a review of the first 35 years of, primarily, British TV advertising. Commercial TV in Britain launched on 22nd September 1955.

Apart from being a very informative series, the opening credits are interesting for their recreation of the picture "Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?" although for those of us in the know it is not entirely accurate.

Each episode focuses on a different aspect of advertising, the first is probably the most interesting to us as it features the role of women in advertising and inevitably there are kitchens and appliances featured here and there.

I hope you enjoy it

And now something shorter

These are my own recordings of a series of much shorter programmes about advertising - from 1983 (Washes Whiter was 1990) it is organised in pretty much the same way - as I recall there were five programmes of which I kept three.

Once again I will start on the programme dealing with women - notable (for me at least) for the late 1970s Zanussi dishwasher visible behind Janet Street Porter - as I recall it was the first Zanussi dishwasher marketed as such in the UK - previously they were branded as Hoover

Wonderful Al, I don't remember seeing this before. Not sure about Dairylea with lemon curd and coconut though. Was that a young Kathy Staff in the Daz advert?

Seen

The first 2 of Washes Whiter a few times, I keep meaning to watch the rest. They are very good, and yes, completely hard to believe that they were produced 26 years ago.

Kathy Staff?

Ian

I don't think it is Kathy Staff although I can see how you might think it might be. Surprised you did not notice Minnie Caldwell (Margot Bryant) flogging the Vim :)

Not sure about the "Fuzzie "Wuzzies" but I hope "Sunshine Susies" will be gracing your tea table soon :) Now there is a recipe idea for a meet LOLOL

Fuzzie Wuzzies

Should imagine that these have a cheesecake type taste to them, trying to imagine lemon curd with a cream cheese.

I must admit I missed Minnie, it could be as she didn't have Bobby with her :-) I had the same thought about the 'Sunshine Suzies' being on the menu at a meet up. I might give the Fuzzie Wuzzies a try, I've got some Dairylea in, I do prefer lemon curd with peanut butter though. (Its nowhere near as bad as it sounds!)
Ian.
