While cleaning junk out of my parents garage this week for pick up day I found my old car cover I had`nt seen in years and decided to wash it. I would normaly do this at the laundry mat but thought I would try it in the maytag.

I used the sun detergent because I thought I would have to wash it again and because its cheap!

And the wash begins,I hope it dosen`t break anything! Look how dirty the water is.

Other car cover notes

What I like to do is brush out the dust and loose dirt out of the cover before loading. When most of that is out, then I wash it. When I did not do that, I had residue in my washer that I had to clean out...hate that!

I have a 90s Kenmore and it seems to do ok!

A208?

Hi drmitch: Is that an A208? I'm currently restoring one. Looks like it did a nice job on the car cover. One question I've had about these: do the fabric softener dispensers discharge completely during the first spin? Sometimes, I think the volume of the dispenser cup would exceed that of the outer chamber at the top of the lint filter.

doityourselfguy--

I had an A208, and now have an 9806, and the fabric softener dispenser empties almost completely--at most, a teaspoon or so is left. (usually less). The chamber in the agitator takes it all in the first spin. Centrifical (sp) force, and then gravity. It's beautiful, simple, and effective, like Maytag engineering used to be!

Don- Great washer, nice car!

And your lawn looks fab too. Wished mine did, we only had our first rain of the year the last few days so I've been living in what looked like those pictures of Iraq, brown brown and more brown as far as the eye can see. Should start greening up now. lol

Nice vintage center timer Maytags!

Don that is a really nice Maytag set you have. Can you tell us what year those machines were built, the story of how you got them, and the history please? Was this the dryer that was converted to electric from gas? BTW I like the "touch of pink" consoles. :)
Nice vintage touch!

Love that pretty "baby" Riv.

Not surprised your Maytag made quick work out of cleaning that cover. My '68 "806" will take on the fulffiest of queen sized comforters------NO PROBLEM!

Will you be attending the convention? I sure hope so!

YAY for Maytag clean

Very nice Maytag!! They can definitely handle a bigger load than you think! And that car cover makes a difference--your "baby Riviera" looks brand new!

And they can handle those big fluffy comforters? I didn't even think my 1-18 could handle mine, which is a Full!

Thanks all! Yes it is a 208 washer and 308 dryer from 1978 the dryer was changed from gas by the dealer I got it from. Just happened to stop by his shop one day and he had them in the window, Paid 200.00 for the pair and a 90 day garantee! I did put belts on it and a lid switch bypass. To doityourself, the dispenser emptys completly if your getting up to full spin. If not check belts or springs on motor slide. To Pete, yes we just had a large rain and the lawn is groing like crazy! It was 94 today, very glad to have central a/c! Whew! Wish I could come to the convention but already used up all my vacation with dads surgery. But I`ll be thinking about all of you and hope everyone has a great time!
