Methinks the differenes between masculine and feminine are somewhat cultural and learned.
They also vary/change over time.
It used to be that if a woman shaved she was a wh***.
Now, men shave (other than the face) IN PUBLIC and no one bats an eye. Men dye their hair in public, etc. I almost died a few times at the personal grooming I see guys do at the gym in plain view.

One of my fondest memories is, after a company Christmas party, everyone having a cigar smoke.
