Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Money Shot

The wash bowl and agitator - the only parts of the machine that were semi decent...

Outer tub is/was plastic, pump was cheap and electric, control panel was plastic AND exposed to steam escaping through the lid when used on Hot washes... Oh dear!

And Now for your Pleasure:

The Miele W5741, Honeycomb Care. Lovely selection of cycles, with options for a Short Washer, Water Plus (Extra Rinse, Higher Water level or both: Note that I'm not sure about the higher water level) and "Quiet" mode.

Temperature range is from Cold - 20º - 30º - 40º - 50º - 60º - 70º - 90º

Spins are from No Spin - Rinse/Hold - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1000 - 1200 - 1400

On some cycles, spins under 800rpm give an extra rinse.

Photo shows the machine washing a load of towels at 60º, Cottons Cycle and Water Plus. Used these shots in my photo album.

I am sure your Simpson T/L was also sold under the Electrolux name. The selling point being it was a cross between a solid drum and traditional drum with holes....the machine would fill up, water would slowly trickle out of the few holes in the drum and be recirculated saving water by not completely filling the outer tub with water.

Anyway....here is my washer, 2008 Miele W1613, my 13th automatic and the one I have owned the longest. A lot of my previous machines were second hand and I sold them on when I got bored ( never had the place to collect ). I have had a few new machines that were duds, broke down within a short time. I love this washer as it's fast, washes brilliantly and is economical to boot! We bought it a week before we got married in 2008, I didn't think Hubby would go for a Miele BUT my obsession must have transferred to him momentarily as he did some research online.....he said he wanted a washer that would last and wanted a Miele! Cost us £649 from John Lewis with 5yr guarantee. Those in the know will notice the machine is doing and Express 40 wash with water plus selected....this was a load of worn once t shirts and joggers worn in the evening so just needed a freshen up....honest!

Apologies

Apologies for any spelling mistakes, I'm usually really good at ensuring everything's spelled correctly in messages.

Apologies also if I swiped the Quartz 6036 pic from anyone.

The "Automatic" programme is for washing medium loads of mixed cottons/synthetics. The machine will sense what fabric makes up the majority of the load and alter the drum rotation, wash time and spin speed accordingly. For example, if the load is mostly cotton the machine will use the intensive wash rhythm, longer interim spins and a longer final spin. If the machine decides the load is mostly synthetic it will do a gentler wash rhythm, introduce a cool down phase at the end of the wash, have a higher rinse level and shorter interim and final spin speeds. The programme is only really designed for lightly soiled fabrics, it only has three temperature options, cold, 30C and 40C and has just two rinses (unless no spin is selected then it will do three). The final spin is limited to 1200rpm on my machine which is a 1300rpm spin model. You cannot select any options with this programme either ie: prewash or extra rinse.

It's not a programme I use often, I think I'd use it more if it did a cool down phase whatever wash action is used as if you are washing mixed fabrics the synthetics can become very creased if a mostly cotton load is detected.

Here is a youtube clip ( not mine) showing the Automatic programme with the intensive wash rhythm. Hope that helps.

Indesit IWD5123. Purchased in Sept 2011. This machine was sold 4 months later as we never liked it due to the excess vibration and also the machine only does 2 rinses and there is no extra rinse facility. The 5kg drum was pretty small.

AEG OKO Lavamat 72640 purchased in Sept 2002, lasted for 9 years. Nice machine but it had a tendency to bang a lot and the drum hit the glass door when starting spins, due to poor suspension legs and the door seal rigidity. Despite that, it was a very solid machine that lasted and I prefer this over the latest AEG's with sealed tubs.

Zanussi Flexi Dose, purchased in December 2011, sold in Sept 2012 - Lastly, the most awful Zanussi I have ever used. It had poor wash results and the spin cycles were just too sensitive and would take forever to spin. Most of the time, it would never spin on full 1600rpm spin. The Jetsystem model purchased in Sept 2012 is 100 times better and smoother.

Zanussi Flexi Dose Drum Filter. Instead of the usual lint filter on front of machine. They have put it inside the drum. Never liked this particularly.

Detergent drawer in Zanussi Flexi Dose machine. Its very small and only has 2 compartments. Unlike the Jetsystem which is longer.
