Washing Machine Preformance

Hi there! I’ve been inspired to performance test washing machines that I have easy access to after watching the videos of it on the Lorain Furniture And Appliance YouTube channel. I’ve conducted a test similar to Lorain Furniture And Appliance’s ketchup test, but this time with a twist. On the end of the white hand towel marked, “dry”, I have applied one ounce of ketchup, squeezed it into the fabric, and let it dry for 2 hours. On the other end, I applied another ounce of ketchup to the towel, and squeezed it in there right before I washed it. This side is marked as,”wet”. The towels I stained were all new towels. I washed them once before testing just in case there were any chemicals on them from the factory that could interfere with the results. I washed each one on the equivalent of the heavy duty cycle, medium soil, no extra rinse, large load size, and warm wash cold rinse. I also ran another test on the delecate cycle, same selections. Each test towel was washed with the same 7 bath towels. For soap, I used one Tide pod with the Spring Meadow scent. I also want to thank Lorain Furniture And Appliance for inspiring me to do this test. I will tell you which machine’s results are shown in case you can’t read the writing on the towel.

This is what I got from my personal 2017 Speed Queen 8 Series. The model number is ANWE82SP113TW01. This was the heavy duty cycle.

This came from a Maytag Bravos Quiet series 300 HE washer. The model number is MVWB400VGO. This came from the heavy cycle. I will be putting them all together once I get them all uploaded individually.

Ordered from left to right: Mr. Suds londromat coin-op front loader made by Wasconmat. Model number is W630CC. Next is a unstained towel to use for comparison. A 1989 Kenmore stacked washer and dryer on heavy duty. Model number is WO3527357. A 3 Speed Whirlpool Direct Drive with the dual action agitator on super wash. Model number is LSR7233EQ1. My personal 2017 Speed Queen 8 series delecate. Model number is ANWE82SP113TW01. The Whirlpool direct drive with the dual action agitator on hand washables. Model number is LSR7233EQ1. The Maytag Quiet Series 300 hand washables. Model number is MVWB400VQ0.

I always enjoy seeing cleaning tests like these. Thanks for the time you put into it! I have a 2017 Series 9 Speed Queen top-loader and have never used the delicate cycle. If I need slow agitation I use the Bulky cycle. The Wascomat sure did a nice job, as did several others.

Frigilux, I’m glad you like it. I will be re-running the $299 Roper and the 1989 Kenmore on the gentle cycle when I get a chance. In regards to the Wasconmat, I was hoping for good results. I paid $4.25 to run my test load. The laundromat I tested at is nice place, it’s clean, and is one of the few places left that offers drop-off laundry. Definitely recommend them. I own a 2017 Speed Queen 8 Series and I love it. I got the idea from the ketchup tests posted on the Lorain Furniture and Appliance YouTube channel. Definitely recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. I will also be posting pictures of the appliances themselves. Thanks again for taking the time to post.

The result from the AWNE82 reflects my experiences. I should do a similar comparison between it and my Orbital Maytag DC. I suspect the Maytag would do considerably worse. Those laundromat front loaders will do an excellent job if they have them programmed to do enough rinses and use enough water. The place down the street from me has a 40# SQ that will get anything clean, while she has a couple 60# Dexters that are just a few years old that are programmed to do only one rinse and fill mostly with cold water and don't give as good of results.

GusHerb, I’d love to see what the orbital Maytag can do. Feel free to post it on this thread. The Wasconmat I believe did a pre-wash, the main wash, and 2 rinses. It used plenty of water on all of the cycles. I heard an advertisement on the radio for another laundromat in my area. I plan on testing there soon. I will also be posting pictures of the appliances shortly.

your off to some good results....glad to see your experimenting, keep at it...

change things up a bit with different detergents, or additives....borax, ammonia, color safe bleach...

try concentrating them, or applying a liquid in a stripe across the stain, to see if there is a difference....

wash temps affect a lot of things.....one persons hot is another persons warm....

your next step would be tackling mechanics clothes or soiled diapers(without bleach)

Yogitunes, I’ll definitely try the several detergents and additives I have in my house. I apologize for the late reply, but life’s busy. I will be photographing and delecate cycle testing the $299 Roper RTW4516FW2 tonight. I’m actually doing laundry in my Speed Queen 8 Series as I post this. I’ll definitely keep you posted, and keep at it. Thanks for the inspiration on where to go next with my testing.

For the detergent testing, I have used my 2017 SQ 8 Series. I have used the heavy duty cycle, large load, and no extra options. The temperature selections have been the same as all the other tests, which is warm wash, cold rinse. For the concentration test, I used two tide pods. For the others, I measured out one ounce of detergent. The staining process is the same as it’s always been. I didn’t get a chance to test the $299 Roper, as I forgot the towel in a zip- lock bag at my house. It had been in there the whole time I was gone, so I just used it for the concentration test. All detergents were HE. Ordered from left to right: Woolite Darks laundry soap. Tide 6X strength. The two tide pods test (AKA, the concentration test).

This test was conducted the same way as the other detergent tests I have done. This time, it is Gain lift & lock original HE. By the way, I bought the powder soap and more towels for testing. I have them all ready to go, I just have to find time. It should be uploaded this weekend, at the latest.

Finally, an update! I apologize about the delay, but I was really busy the last little bit. Anyways, this is the $299 Roper on the delecate cycle. Hopefully, I can upload more detergent tests soon.

From my SQ 8 series. This is the test of the powder detergent that is way overdue. The detergent was the, and I quote here:“Fresh-&-Clean Laundry detergent + Stain Fighting Power”. AKA, the powder detergent from the dollar tree. I’m very sorry that it took that long to get it up. If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.
