Ahhh, one of the many things I liked about Brookside. You often saw the characters loading up the washer :-). Correct me if I'm wrong; but isn't that a Washcraft type Zanussi that the Jordaches had?

brookside

yep Jon the entire brookside close was kitted out in Zanussi washcraft machines. I remember seeing sheila grant stuffing hers and then running it and you saw it in action only briefly. Oh them were the days!

Its simple ,,, lets all club together pay off peggy mitchell and close the queen vic. Then with all the extra cash , everyone will have a miele in their kitchen !

Pretty nifty! What I think is really nifty is that on the TV Show Roaseanne, she uses a Frigidaire 1-18 in Harvest gold! There is even a few episodes where you see the up and down action!

Eastenders

I remember (and this is sooo sad) when Den and Angie had their row and she told him that she was dying she had loaded up her Hotpoint and you heard it go through the rinse and spin programmes. Good old Eastenders eh!

Yep, I remember that too. You also used to hear the toploaders on older Neighbours episodes a lot, and of course you can't forget the launderette in EastEnders.

The old switcheroo!

Did you notice that in the early days, Roseanne had a set of avacado Maytags? There was an episode dedicated to them selling their "old" washing machine because it had a "cracked agitator" or something. The following episodes showed the 1-18's, yet the washer was missing the timer knob. Very strange. I also remembered when Jackie would do laundry there, she used what looked like Fresh Start!

I also remember a commercial that played frequently on Friday nights while Dallas was on. It was for a laundry freshening additive by Lysol. The machine used on the commercial was a Westinghouse FL, very similar to Austin's. I believe the one on this commercial was white, however, and was installed under the countertop in the kitchen. I remember wanting that machine SO BAD. That was before I realized the luxary of internal heaters and high spin-speeds (hence the necessity for the Lysol product)! LOL

How he ended up with Sonia one will never know

Ahhh but after Sonia's lesbian affair; who then carried on to sleep with Gus, Martin and Sonia are no longer together :-)

Bryan -

"the entire brookside close was kitted out in Zanussi"
Brookside was a soap opera about the people who lived on a cul-de-sac called Brookside Close in a suburb of Liverpool. Ran from 1982-2003, and was one of my favourite soaps of all time - I remember watching the omnibus with nana on Saturday afternoons and it was a treat because mum wouldn't let me watch it at home, especially with the storylines it became famous for! Anyway, the whole close had Zanussi appliances - kitted out is an English term for fitted out I guess. Obviously some deal between Mersey Television who made Brookside and Zanussi; as the Zanussi logo on all the appliances was larger than it would normally be.

"when Den and Angie had their row" - can be translated to when Den and Angie had their argument. Row (pronounced Row as in wow, rather than Roe as in rowing a boat) is a British term for argument.

I also remember the Contrarotator on Brookside in the last few years of the soap - though I can't remember who had it.

All the washing machines where the new 919 & 929 modular models, all of the fridges and cookers where Zanussi as well....It was a rival Zanussi distributor who came through with the deal..talk about great advertising....

Dont remember the dyson though??

But, I am old enough to remember Annie Sugdens Indesit L6 front loader...LOL

Hoover in the 70s

I also remember a screen play/comedy set in the 70s early 80s where couples spent Christmases in each other's houses. The scenes were set in peoples kitchens. I remember a scene with Maureen Lipman going over what a washing machine was to an old fashioned couple. It was a Hoover 800 with a round door and Prunella Scales (the old fashioned one) asked if the machine ironed the clothes, due to the minimum iron program.

I also remember a Phillips (I think) in Fresh Fields and the recent Doctor Who shows Jackie filling an old Bendix with washing. Must date from the mid 80s at least.

Washer on Rosanne

Hi....did Rosanne Connor have a set of Maytags? I seem to remember Jackie loading the Maytag Washer. Also, the series Charmed and That 70's show had Maytags.

Hahahaha

Mike I have just re-read my message and see what you mean LOL!

Born in 73 I'm hardly a youngster (I wish)! The oldest machine I have used I think was a Hoover spinarinse from the 50s or 60s.

US/UK

Roseanne started out with gold Maytags, which were later replaced by gold 1-18s.

Monty Python's Flying Circus had a couple of great washer scenes. One, as I recall, was a commercial for detergent that showed a Hotpoint with the lid up, spiraling merrily away. In another sketch, Mrs. Premise and Mrs. Conclusion discuss "How to Put Your Budgie Down" in a launderette full of turquoise Speed Queens.

Edina went through a couple of FLs on AbFab, but I don't know what the brands were. And I guess we can only wonder what kind of machine Tanya Turner had.
