In the spirit of the season I've been binge-watching horror movies. Figured I'd share a few titles that might be of interest to appliance lovers
In The Stepford Wives (original version, please), Katharine Ross's kitchen has metal cabinets and a KitchenAid sink/dishwasher from the '50s. The range is a '60s Americana with pushbuttons along either side of the cooktop. There is a brief shot of a Westinghouse top-loader and dryer in the laundry room off the kitchen.
The Killing Kind, from 1973, is worth seeking out for its great cast and a scene where Ann Sothern visits a laundromat. Speed Queen top-loaders and some really ancient-looking FLs with dispenser chutes in the doors. Ann also has a giant six-burner, two-oven gas range (maybe a late Roper DeLuxe) in coppertone.
Abby (available for viewing on YouTube) is a hysterical blaxploitation version of The Exorcist. Sweet minister's wife Abby suffers a supernatural attack while stuffing clothes into an early-'70s Kenmore, with a Westinghouse dryer nearby.
If you can sit through the Texas-shot whatzit The Abomination (also on YouTube) there are many, many shots of a '60s Speed Queen washer and Hotpoint cooktop and wall oven.
