This may sound odd: What kind of motor do waste disposals utilize? Split pole? Condenser-type single phase? Permanent magnet armature?
I wonder, because I intend to buy an Insinkerator model from the US which is not available over here (ok, the warranty will collapse but WTH? I know how to use a screwdriver).
I successfully run a 110V 60Hz Kenmore 70 series washer with a transformer on 220V 50 Hz (stepping down to 110V), the wash motor is all fine, just the timer motor had to be exchanged to a 50 Hz timer motor. (the 60 Hz type would just wobble and hum but not advance, lucky me that a Moulinex rotisserie grill timer had just the same dimensions to fit in the Kenmore dashboard.)

So: To what an extent will the 50/60Hz difference make a difference in a waste disposal?
Experts?

Thanks
Joe

yes, but...

you are right Nathan, I indeed have inquired at those importing firms in the UK and even here in Germany (Insinkerators can be had over here, but not the model I have on my Christmas list :-)

AU, that is something I should go for....
Again: Technical spec sheets here? Just for curiosity (if not for installing my dream grinder)

thanks Nathan, and thanks for "am Ball bleiben" :-)

these are exactly the same models we can get here, but not the Evolution series. (US only). You know how it is, it has to be the BEST before you settle for less :-) *broadgrin*

But thanks again, I like to see how someone is out there reading and replying back. Strange, feels like an "alive" webspace here, very nice (just that time lag drives me nuts, I remember reading threads when all the guys were chatting back and forth while I was asleep (and vice versa).

Broad smile towards down under :-D
