Water inlet valve rebuild kits

I just thought I'd share this since there doesn't seem to be anything like it in the archives. Spare diaphragms for the thermostatic valves manufactured by Dole(found in vintage Maytag and other machines)can be hard to track down. The official Maytag part number comes up as NLA at all the places I've checked. But at least one site I visited made reference to part number W7438 as a substitute. So I bought a kit(W7438K-2)to see if it really would fit, and it turns out it does. So if anyone's interested, the part number for the diaphragm all by itself is W7438. For the rest of the parts seen in the photo below you can order the kit, pn W7438K-1 or K-2. K1 contains one diaphragm and the associated hardware, while K2 contains two of everything. The K2 kit also includes new inlet screens and rubber washers for them that I left out of the photo. There are likely many other valves that this kit will fit as well.

Yes I've been using these kits for years, they breath new life into old water valves that's for sure.

Water Valve Rebuild Kits

Yes these kits will fit almost ALL INLET valves on washers and DWs used from the early-mid 50s and on through including most DWs and washers well into the 1970s. Once washers and DWs changed to the slow close valve designs to prevent water hammer starting in the 70s these kits will no longer work [ there is also a kit for most slow close valves available ], so for anyone that either has washers and DWs built in this time period, [ or hopes to some day ] BUY some of these kits ,they are one of the most critical parts to the machines proper operation.

kits for the larger Dole valve, the one with the bigger fatter solenoid and it has a larger diaphragm??

Is this diaphragm on the left the size you're looking for? It came out of a Maytag valve pn 2-262, and it's 1 3/8" in diameter. The smaller more common diaphragm is about 1 1/16" in diameter and is included here for scale. The part number for the larger one as it appears in the book is 2-10949, but as you can imagine an internet search turns up nothing. There's a local guy here who thinks he has a few of these, but I won't know until tomorrow.

Solenoid repir kits.

I have used many. This type of valve is common in the chemical feed equipment used in the coin-op carwash I manage.

Well, I spoke to the guy this morning and after going through his old inventory(he's semi retired these days) he turned up about thirty of the larger diaphragms. He's thinking five dollars each is a fair price considering how scarce they are now. Since there really isn't any other source for them that I'm aware of it's hard to argue with his logic. If anybody wants to order a few, let me know and I'll pass on his contact info.
