Water Under Maytag LA108

Hoo boy.

Doing today's wash, I found that water was puddled under my washer and dryer- both Maytag centre-dials. At first, I thought it was leakage from rain through the wall of the laundry room, which is below grade. I mopped up the water with towels, then put the towels in to wash.

Oy Gott. Now I have suds and water under the machines. After pulling the front panel of the washer, I cannot find any evidence of leakage inside the machine (at least not recent), but I DID find the wall behind the washer wet, where the standpipe is. I wonder if I have an overflow condition at the standpipe?

Any ideas? *weakly* PLEASE?

Okay...

It's obvious that something is going on with the standpipe. I'll use drain opener on it, of course- I have the HD professional stuff. But I also wonder if my recent switch to powder might have something to do with it- I was using a liquid. I think there must be some over-sudsing going on.

Ideas and suggestions welcome! P.S.- I also find that I need a new set of glides on my washer's sled, where the trans hub spins on it, down at the bottom of the machine. Oh brothah.

Sandy very aggravating

When we changed from a magic chef years ago to an amana it would boil suds up out of the standpipe just as you describe the home improvement stores sell a rubber sleeve with metal clamps at top and bottom. take your drain hose out of the standpipe slip this thing on the top and tighten well, put your drain hose in the top and tighten no more than necessary but enough to stop this sudsing out of the standpipe,(do not go so tight as to cause a siphoning situation) if you let it drain a tub of clear water without any spew out of the standpipe this $5.00 fix may work for you, good luck. alr2903

By the way, the other situation I mentioned is the damper pads. One of them is sitting inside the washer, on the sled- it's nowhere near where it's supposed to be. It appears that someone used graphite to lube the base!

Obviously, I have some work to do; I've got some questions to ask in another thread.

Sandy I have e-mailed you with the Part p1056-32 at home d's site enter sku, p1056-32 may not be the correct use of this part but ours has worked for years. No more wet floor when one does get a little Heavy Handed with the tide. hope it works for you too. arthur.

leakage in LA108

Turn on the washer and as it is filling look inside on the left uper portion to see if there is a leak on the incoming water suply.if so,you'll need to get the Jet spray nozel assembly that directs the water flow into the tub.It has a rubber sock that wraps around the tube and it wares after a few years causing a mild leak,But,if it isn't fixed right away,it gets frayed and causes major leaks under the rim.E Z fix!!!

It Was the Standpipe!

Hello All:

First, thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement. Some careful checking revealed that it was overflow from the standpipe. The standpipe is already not the greatest; it's very badly designed and installed. It seems that lint buildup inside it was causing some backup; my old washer was a DD Whirly with a self-cleaning lint filter, so there was bound to be some lint in the pipe. After a cleanout with professional drain opener and a snake, the standpipe is flowing like it oughter. I'm noticing much less of that Maytag "sucking" noise when the washer is in operation, too. I hopefully will not have the lint buildup again as much, since the Maytag has a lint filter that you clean manually.

So, things seem to be better! Thanks again.
