Hi Robert.

I see a time next to all posts, I guess this is Minneapolis time?

As I am on the other side of the planet, I generally have no idea what time this is in comparison to my time.

Sometimes I like to see what time it is now, in Automaticwasher.org time, in case I am browsing when everybody in USA is fast asleep. (it goes quiet at times...)

So my suggestion is, in the banner across each page that currently shows the smiling blue (turquoise?) washer and the imperial....> DL forum headings, could you add a clock that shows us what time it is now in automaticwasher.org -land?

You could even make it  look like a washing machine timer dial, with wash-rinse-spin sectors, but with numbers and hands to show the time? (though that would be much more time-consuming to set up than a simple digital clock, I acknowledge.)

Thank you for this great site.

Chris.

Isn't the default time zone that appears on a post Central (which would apply to Minnesota) unless a user changes the setting to apply his or her own time zone?

As I was typing this post, I noticed it reflected CST.  As soon as I posted it, the time changed to PST (my time zone).

I’ve always had my profile set to US Pacific time and all my posts and everyone else's appear in Pacific time.

According to the World Clock on my iPad the time in Adelaide, Australia is 18.30 hours ahead of PST, so subtract 2 hrs from this and if you are in Australia the time in the Mid West of the USA would be 16.30 hrs BEHIND what your current time is.  I think that Keith’s suggestion in reply#3 is a good one.

Per the 1930s vintage Telechron "Explorer" clock that sits on my desk, it's currently 1:25 PM PST and 6:55 AM 2/15/21 in Adelaide.  In the picture below, Adelaide is showing 10:48 PM, which means the local time zone that clock is set for is Eastern (top dead center).

I'm sure certain global time zones have changed since my clock was produced.  There was no real order at all in the U.S. until the railroads forced the issue in order to offer accurate timetables.

you can't just "subtract this" year round.

USA has daylight savings at some time of year and Australia has daylight savings at the other end of the year.

I'm in Victoria, 1/2 hour ahead of Adelaide. 1 hour ahead of Queensland at present, because Queensland doesn't do daylight saving.

(We joke we are 1 hour and 20 years ahead of Queensland...)

We are currently 17 hours ahead of US central time. It varies over the year.

I guess I can install a clock on my browser, or maybe even install a 2-time-zones clock on my computer.

(It's Solus Linux. I haven't checked if such a thing is available.)

I actually thought it would be a cute addition to the website, to have an AW.org clock, like we are visiting "AW.org-land" while we are here... not just a practical matter, but a fun addition, like the wash/rinse/spin buttons beside each post.

Australia has 3 time zones across the continent, plus some states do summer time and some don't, so at present we have 5 different times in the country.

Hi Chris, yes you can set the time zone in your profile to whatever your local time zone is and then all times (except for maybe preview post) are shown in your local time. I never really thought of the website of having one official time, but I assume you're just wondering what time it is across the USA where the majority of the site's users are?
