Weekend Work on 101P

Hi all ... thought I'd share some pictures from the first water (albeit cold) into my 101P this past weekend. I haven't scrubbed the rust out yet, as I want to wait for the new drain hose before I use hot water. The old hose leaks seriously and I don't want to contribute to the rust problem, but I was still able to enjoy some Maytag action!!

Another shot ... machine is gyratating ... gotta love the gyrafoam method!! Oops ... problem with the water valve!! Water continues to enter even after machine starts agitating AND when the machine is turned off ... will disassemble.

Check out the residual soap suds left from the previous owner. That's something I don't like; oh well. Gotta get it cleaned up!!

Happy Maytager ... breathing a sigh of relief, too!! It was stifling in the garage on Saturday; it was 100 degrees with a dew point of 69. Uggghhhh ...

Timer Worked!!

AND the timer worked. Thanks Robert for the assist! I was able to splice the wires together and I LOVE the sound the timer makes as it advances every 30 seconds ... also, I love the Maytag "clunk" when it goes into spin. That's the sound that used to scare the heck out of me as a kid when I was in the basement alone. It scared me the first time it happened on Saturday!!! Ahhh ... memories.

Congrats Geoff! This is the oldest Maytag auto I've seen working. I'm really glad someone saved this one, I thought it was going to the crusher for sure when we didn't pick it up. Beautiful machine

Hi Geoff, wow you did such a fabulous job, congratulations! I know how great it feels to bring a sleeping mummy back to life after years of dormancy. Great pictures too, can't wait to see more. I'm glad the timer wire splicing worked and the pump is now silent. You should pick up a water valve repair kit at your parts store, if you can't find one I know the Sunberg parts on 44th and Nicollet has some I can pick it up for you if you need.

Geoff - it looks like you're having a really fun time with this washer, and it's looking good too! Don't you love the way the AMP throws it's water? Slow and graceful, almost like an elegant fountain. ;-) Keep up the good work!

Geoff, I have several Maytag's as you may already be aware. This one you have is the bomb. Yes, the timer advance sound is awesome. Enjoy!

I really appreciate it. I realize that I am a "first timer" with this type of restoration and you all have had so much experience that I have been quite hesitant about showing my progress. I thank you for your patience and I'm sure I'm not done with the questions yet!! I'm going through this very slowly as I want to get it right. I'd really like to use this machine quite often when I get it inside to its new home.

It is a "graceful" machine with lots of character; like the majority of the machines I've seen on this website.

If I don't get a new hose by this weekend, I'll try to concentrate more on the laundry room. I'll be removing my dual laundry tubs (can you believe it ~ this from a wringer user!) and am searching for a more compact single tub. I saw some at Home Depot that will work, but I like the one that was on e-Bay a while ago; remember the yellow/green one with the cabinet? While I know I can't find that color combo, I wonder if I can find a brand new plain white one with a lid?

Also, I need to prepare the cabinet, lid and handle for painting. We have a painting subcontractor at work who will help me with this at his shop. He knows what special paint to use, so it will be a Saturday project and I'm hoping ... next Saturday.

Also, I need to order some POR 15 (is that the best?) off the web and get the channel base painted.

So, you see, I have a long way to go.

Wow Geoff, you've done a great job! I bet that machine is fun to watch (and hear...it probably sounds much different than the later Maytags) in action; and the "KERSCHK" sound of the timer makes it that much more fun!
