Forecast tonight: They are predicting 6-12 inches of snow for the Fort Smith and surrounding areas this weekend!!!!! OH BOY !

Well RP, if it doesn't get this cold for another 50 years into the future, it will definitely suit me! It's a good thing I saved one heavier coat and some accessories from Minnesota days.

Toggles, I'm pretty much chilly anytime it's below 60 now. Over the weekend when it was cold at night and only getting in the low 50s during the day I was wrapped in a blanket in my chair next to the heater, drinking hot cocoa, reading and watching movies. This is about all the winter I can handle anymore! LOL

We've had a heat wave and a cold snap just in the year and a half I've been here, enough already with the weather deviations! But, what I love here is that most times it's pretty much "room temperature" inside and out, just about all the time.

I am absolutely convinced that the bizarre weather patterns we are experiencing are the results of Project HAARP, which uses high-frequency radio waves and ionospheric heaters (invented by Nicola Tesla)....

Why else would hundreds of thousands of birds just suddenly fall out of the sky....in TWO seperate instances and places?

They were autopsied but the results were inconclusive....

One day, it's seventy degrees, the next, it's thirty.

It may be the record is for the lowest temps for these days in mid-January, I don't know. Generally we have a warm spell in January, one or two weeks of spring-like weather. It was lukewarm before this cold snap, though.

I've been in the SF Bay Area since the 60's, and I do agree that there have been other cold winters, as cold if not colder than this one. It's not always possible to compare, though, since I've moved every 10 years or so, and the Bay Area is notorious for its microclimates.

33 degrees F here....supposedly 1-2 inches of snow tonight...

It was beginning to feel weird NOT having it.

Scott, you are so right. Usually LA's coldest daytime high temp is the Bay Area's warmest. I am not your typical Bay Area snob and I love LA. On any given winter day you can look up the forecasted high for LA and it will be like 73. That's tough to beat. As a native Californian I am a wimp where cold temps are concerned and every winter I find myself wishing I was an LA resident. Well, anywhere from Santa Barbara south would do since I love the beach.

Sudsmaster, you're correct about the micro-climates. I know Oakland set some records for low temps last week and it's very possible that the records that were broken were from 50 years ago. I was in LA hoping to get warm last week. I failed miserably. Gassing up my car Saturday morning it was 41 out there at 10AM and the wind was howling, making it feel like 31 or lower, I guess. There was just no escaping the cold. Glad things are getting back to normal this week.

Weird Weather indeed!

Not only did we have like zero snow this *winter* - today, there is a severe storm raging all across Germany. Wind speeds up to 125 mph, flooding and even possible tornadoes (although they are extremely rare over here).

I think the situation in the UK about is the same.

Yes, I had a very upset phone call earlier, from my aunt in Mannheim, where I have relatives....I believe twelve people have died so far.

I hope and pray that all of our European friends and members are fairing well, are safe and comfortable, and are also not being inconvenienced by the transportation shutdowns as well.
