Hmmmmmmmmmm. You know from what I've inspected so far, I think this machine was used a few times, and sat with some water in it for a few weeks.

All and All she's ready to roll. The impeller turns freely, the dry motor turns freely, I haven't dumped Hot Water in her yet , but from the experts (And the Dr Stevet) What do you guys think ?????

How many machines have you restored on your own so far ?
Most of the machines we all get are generally rough on the outside, but some are really good on the inside. You know there is something when your gut tells you that this machine is going to be fine. And then again there is something that tells you to stay away. That's how I felt about the Uni you bought for $1,000. I found your post about my finding very offensive when you said "I only drive cross country for "really special machines". You know we all have our passions about certain makes, types and brands. You don't know what it's like when I got my 1957 KD2-P when I had to spend $250.00 for one of the last 2 Brand New Cast Iron Drain Valves from Hobart that was left in the world just to make this machine run and be PERFECT. And if it wasn't for stevet, I probably would have had to scrap the machine I hope you realize how fortunate you are to have Robert so close to you and take you under his wing.I feel very fortunate that I have John (Coldspot66)and Steve(stevet)the Hobart man from the club that I've never met. And they have helped me through e-mails and phone calls. I'm almost coming up on my one year anniversary with AW.org and I've met alot of Great People and have collected in almost one year 7 Dishwashers and 3 Washers. So please be considerate how you "judge" other members findings.
Look at the Monkey Ward Thread. Rick really worked hard on that machine. And it turned out to be a beauty.
So please think twice about what you are going to post. Thanks, Eddie. I think you should be considerate about other people's passions about their machines.

Ed, I would not worry about that minor surface rust on the heating element ends, Probably nothing more than surface rust.
Many of the earlier machines had the water staining on the Air blower since some water could be sent down the tube when the door is opened and then shut and restarted. The displaced air has got to go somewhere. They alleviated some of that when they put the little metal plate inside the air diffuser so the air would seal the plate and then come out the bottom of the door. You can change the diffuser and put one in from a newer unit if it concerns you.
I noticed that the unit had only a single coil fill valve which was not the standard for the built ins. I guess they figured you could always shut off the water at the faucet if the valve failed but would need the extra safety margin on a built in!
Everything looks so clean so you should really have no peoblem with it. If you are really careful, you may be able to restore the program buttons or maybe someone still has some better looking ones in their stash of stuff!
I used to save all those things, but tossed them years ago.
And let me tell you, with the new detergents they have now, you can definitely "Bob Load" that machine and get some great results. Wait till you hear the Hydroswepp beat the daylights out of the top of the tank when it is empty. It really drums it!

I got the KitchenAid bug years ago with that portable model that you have, only in avocado green. I Love LOVE LOVE my KA diwshwasher...only machine that compares to it is the GE2800

Not quite for life!
The motors came with a five year limited warranty. However, we all know most of them ran forever anyway! Only thing that really killed them was if the shaft seal leaked!

I don't think I'm going to get back to her for a few days. As I said, the impeller turns freely, The dry motor turns as well, does she need a soaking with hot water first, or do you think I should just go for it ???? You're the man.
I am listening to "La Regina" right now . That Regency I have been using it as the Daily Driver since I got her. I really don't care for the 20 too much. I like the way she cleans, but I much rather have the start and go like the 18. I want to get the 18 on line as soon as I can have the time to replace the detergent dispensor and figure out what else is wrong with her. Man , I miss that one. But the Regency is doing a fantastic job, As I cook for myself everynight, I always manage to fill her up and run her. Great Machine. Really splashes that water around. The Superba should be running next week, (KDS 55) We're supposed to get rain the next 3 days, so I hope I have time to water test her in the Garage.

if I may chime into the discussion. It would not hurt to add a drop or two of rinse aid to that initial fill of water. This will help lubricate the seals.
