Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Oh, they were very popular in the rural parts of Quebec - you could use the wood-fired part during winter or when the power went out.   When I was really little we lived in a house that had a wood-electric combination stove in the 'summer kitchen' but I can't recall the brand.  In my teens, our family had a country house in the Eastern Townships with a Belanger wood/electric combination that was probably from the late 1930s!

According to my other half they apparently had something like this. Never seen one myself. He grew up in a little Newfie fishing village. It's nice though isn't it.. Who'd have thunk it.

That's cool - haven't seen one in years. Ours was almost exactly the same and we had it until I was about 8. The "burning" part was always called the garbage burner and it really belted out the heat. My parents got rid of it when we actually got a real live furnace and didn't need the extra heat anymore.

In the United States, there was a a brand of gas ranges and space heaters by the name of "Warm Morning" that featured a line of range/space heaters with either gas or solid fuel for the heater part of the appliance.

Caloric also made some configuration of these as was discussed earlier in a link to an ad somewhere.

Lawrence is spot on!  The Monarch Malleable Range Co. formerly of Beaver Dam, WI, made electric/wood as well as gas/wood combos.  The elderly couple that lived next to our family had a Caloric gas/wood combo.  They didn't have the wood part connected because of it being next to an exterior wall.  They brought the stove with them when they sold their farm, and moved into town.

LOTS!

Of Monarchs around here, a great idea, because on the Monarchs, the oven could be heated with either wood or electricity, Home Comfort made these also, most of theres were wood or gas.
