I have put the Hotpoint back in the kitchen, I kept having problems with the Westinghouse oven I really couldn't figure out, sometimes it baked just fine, but most times it overbrowned whatever I was baking on top, and did not brown the bottom at all, I finally decided yesterday to set with it and see what was going on, I turned it to 350 and let it preheat, it seemed fine full voltage on the bake element 120 on the broil, the first time it came back on it was fine, but the third cycle was when I found the problem, the bake unit dropped out of the circuit, so that then was the problem, it was heating on top heat only, thus funny baking results, I found if you just touched the dial the bake unit would come back on, so as rare as WH parts are, I just went back to the 61 HP the finish on it is in much better shape anyway. And I can get HP parts easily.

well, at least you got to what was actually wrong with it.....not that you feel better about it, and at least you have a backup you can work with....

who knows, parts may show u, and you will have it up and running properly again....

So sorry to hear of this misfortune

It could be a broken piece of wire or shaky connection that comes apart under stress; I know I do. Do you need for me to search for a part number so that you could be looking? Send me the model # and I will look it up on the microfiche, unless someone has a WH ready reference parts catalog.

I discovered

The lady who owned it was very clean, but she must have scrubbed it with Comet, the original shine is now dull and hard to keep clean, I still like fixed heat units better than infinite, so I think the Hotpoint will stay awhile...John was right about Westinghouse switches !

I Think.........

the selector switch to your Westy should be able to come apart so you can bend the contacts back into place. The same thing happened to my "57 HP oven and it was a fairly easy fix. Those contacts get a little bent out of shape after years of switching back and forth but they're made very well.

Westinghouse Oven Thermostat

Yes this is all in the TS, and while technically possible to fix I would not waste the time, [ it is going to have at least one burned terminal and contact and a burned Bakelite switch housing ] WH always had more than their share of problems with these TSs, Good News is that a new or good used replacement can probably be found if you really want to fix this range, personally I would hold out for a slightly higher end WH range that is in better shape.
