YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom decided yesterday and I can't wait! We are going to buy one off of eBay (2,000 bucks is way too much) and she insists that it be no older than 2004. Any ideas on models? she is willing to pay around 1,000 bucks but not more, and it needs to have all of the bells and whistles. (of course) She wants to wait until early to mid March, but, I see one (Diamond Edition or something? Is that as good as it gets? Are we talking TOL model here?) that I want, and I want to know, how rare is it to find one in great condition like this? I need all of the opinions I can get to convince her to buy it sooner because I want that Tech Drive!!!!!!HURRY!!!!!!

Hi Jamie :)

The latest and highest edition is the G5 Diamond Series. This model comes with Tech Drive, carpet shampooer, you name it, it comes with it. I'm VERY sure you're going to like this one as well, It's SELF-PROPELLED :) I was just telling my mother the other day that I would get her a diamond series, or a G4 or something of that like, She told me "Just fix my Kirby and I will be happy". (We have a Legend II) Yes Jamie, you cannot get anymore TOL than a G5 Diamond Series :) :) Hope that helps!!

I was never a Kirby homemaker but...

I'm the proud second owner of a G4 Kirby and love it! One of the best upright vacs I've ever used, normally I don't care for most power-drive systems, but the Kirby's is amazing.

Here is my G4 with a 1956 that I had restored at the Kirby shop last fall. That is also a beautiful cleaner, but much too pretty for everyday dog hair...

Kirby G4

I have a G4 and the ony 2 comalints I have isi that as the bag starts to get full, it starts to tip over to the right. And changing the baag is sort of a pain, it LOOKS like a simple "push & twist" to attach the bag but in practice, it's sort of "bitchy" How does one obtain instructions for this machine and it's accessories? It was inherited from a deceased roommate, who inherited it from his Mom, so I have the shampooer, but no documentation on anything.

I bought a G4 Kirby new back in 1996. That's after a highly rated Panasonic model "died" after 2-3 years in an all adult household. I didn't get the shampoo attachment for mine. And I'll tell you, it's been a great help around the house here. I even cleaned up concrete and tile shards with it. Not the best way perhaps to treat it, but it still works like a champ!

You may want to check around your local vacuum/sewing stores as well as eBay. Many times people will trade them in and you might find some pretty good bargins that way. Also check with your local Kirby dealer. As as lot of these are sold on an installment plan, through Kirby finance, they do get repossessed models back in their stores.

Of course they're sold in homes, but how they did it for me was hit me with the full price, I believe about $1800.00 at the time. Of course, I just shot them my price and after several well acted frantic phone calls to their manager, they sold me the machine. I think it was about $1100 at the time, without the shampoo attachment or turbo brush. I also had the salesman throw in his Kirby tie tack as well!!

Yes,At present the Kirby Diamond G is the latest model. There are rumors going about that a new model is supposed to be introduced this year?I have 2 Diamond G's and love em-excellent machine. Truely the best upright out there. For those folks that need info on older Kirbys-you can look them up on their website.I have had no trouble replacing bags in any of mine-the bayonet lock bag mechansim works for me.Gansky: the two Kirbys you show are beautiful!Bought three factory rebuilt ones from the Kiurby dist here.A G3,4,and a G5. They did a supurb job of restoring them.-and all new attachments.I too like the Kirby "Tech-Drive" its the best power drive system I have seen. The Hoover imitation is crude.

"Cleaned up tile and Glass shards with it"Lucky Kirby owner-user.thats a good way to break the fan.If you get a Kirby demo-keep the salesman there-and draw things out! They want to try to sell it to you as quickly as they can.If you "stall" him-he may sell it at a lower price.also a secret-and why Kirby salesmen won't let you see the box--It has on the side the SUGGESTED price set by Kirby. Its something like $1445 for the machine with attachments but without the shampooer. The shampooer is about $200 extra. The new shampooer(Diamond G) is made of some sort of plastic. The metal ones were corroding from users trying to store them wet.I have gotten one or two corroded shampooers as trade in toward TriStar. In one of my Kirby demos at my home-had the saleslady throw in the dirt meter-She did!! and she gave me LOTS of dirt pads-love using it now and then. Also got a Baird meter from her(shows CFM of the vac under test)
